Not receiving some text messages on Samsung Fascinate

I have had my phone for a little over two weeks now, and it was brought to my attention that I have not been receiving some of my text messages. When I check my account usage, however, the messages appear to be received by my number. Now that I know the problem exists, I have been checking my usage and finding that it has been happening at least once a day (for a few messages) every day this week.

I called tech support last night and spoke to a specialist who had me do the following:

- Remove the battery while the phone was on, wait 20 sec, put it back in and turn it on

- Verify that I am not using an advanced task killer

- Delete all text messages from phone to possibly clear memory

- Dial *228 to reprogram my phone

- Text some of my usual contacts and a verizon test phone to see if I received responses (I did)

The phone was working fine when I got off the call, but since the problem has been intermittent, I had no way of knowing if it was resolved. This morning I am back to only receiving some of my text messages. Do I need a new phone? Is anyone else having this problem?? Please help! I use my phone for work and it's very unprofessional to look like I am ignoring messages. Thanks!

I am having the same exact problem with the same phone. I took it to vw couple of days ago and all they did was factory reset the phone. The problem is still occuring so I am going to visit again. Messaging is very important to me and it is a great problem if i don't get one out of every twenty messages. It is also annoying to have to check every minute online my usage details to make sure. They said if the factory reset didn't work though, it's probably because of the wireless connection.

There are a couple of things we would want to check out to isolate the issue. Is this with out of network numbers? I know you mentioned that you have had the phone for approximately 2 weeks. Did you port your number to Verizon Wireless from another carrier? It may be network related and fixable via a trouble ticket.

If this issue is still occurring, can you document at least 3 instances that someone stated they sent you a text message, and you didn't get it and PM me with your cell number so I can get in touch with you?

I have had my fascinate for about 9 months now, in the last 2 months or so I have found that I am sending text messages and they are not going through. This is to both Verizon cell # & non Verizon. Then when I realize they haven't gone through I turn my phone off & power it back on and all the texts messages get sent at once & arrive in a jumbled mess. The 1st tine this happened was in mid March- they stopped sending late on a Fri and it was Sat afternoon before I realized I wasn't getting replies. I just took my phone in 2 weeks ago because I had a camera issue, screen was missing pixels? But only on the camera screen, they replaced it for me, and I again had the text issue just 3 days ago when I was tetxing my husband, who is on the same plan of course & other friends. I have been with Verizon for over 10 years, same number, and its now happened on 2 seperate phones in my case.

I don't get texts from my wife, and she is in network. I don't get emails for days on end. This froyo update is unsat.....and it took six months longer than promised to boot! I am taking my phone back for adifferent droid. Mine worked great for nine months until the new update. I even got a factory refurbished phone, now have more problems then when I started!

This is also happening to me. I got a refurbished phone in the mail two days ago and now i am not getting text messages from one person. Everyone else's text are coming through. It also happenes to be the person who is on my family plan. And if you look at there data usage it says that they are getting all of my text but they arnt even sending me any, But they showed me there phone and they have been answering them all. And we tried sending my phone multiple messages and his phone says they went through but i never recieve them.

I too am having the problem where I've sent texts (to my family - on my plan, as well as random other people) and the texts aren't going through. I've powered down, removed the battery, and they still are not receiving my texts. From my end it appears as though the texts have gone through. This is just the latest problem with this update. I am so angry and frustrated with my phone now and with whoever allowed this crap update to be distributed to the masses...

Count me in for not receiving some text messages from a Family Plan/In-Network/Fascinate (my wife's Fascinate to my Fascinate).

My wife was not too happy that I didn't get the text, because she was trying to tell me to not come home from work too early, because she was actually setting up my surprise Birthday party. Since I did not get the text, I spoiled her surprise party plans by arriving home early. Thanks Verizon Wireless and Samsung. :womanmad:

This is not a problem with the phone itself, it appears to be a problem in the Android OS. If you search through the other Android Forums, you will see people complaining about the same thing with their phone. There are other threads on the Fascinate Forums that talk about the issues, and that others are experiencing it also. I was told that Google knows of the problem.

I am one of them with the problem.

There is a software update for the Fascinate that was released today. Please try the update and let us know if this resolves your text messaging issues. To manually start the update, go to Settings>About phone>System updates>Check New.

i did the newest update and it's still the same problem.

no sound notification when i receive a text with the screen off. no sound notification with text with screen on. still getting missed text messages from in network texters.

honestly, i think this update made it worse. i wouldn't download if i were you.

lets see what other updates you guys have that will make this phone worse than it already is.

ever since you've pushed the 2.2 update ive also been having nothing but issues. same problems as everyone else but this last update just screwed everything up completely. The fact that i can't send or receive important texts is a huge issue. Please resolve this as soon as possible. I really dont want to have a useless phone for an extended period of time.

I just recently (and yes, since the update) have been having the same issue along with a ton of others...i'm so frustrated..

It is completely unacceptable ..I use my phone for work and feel completely handicapped. The other day I received a text that the was 3-4 sentences. The sender told me that the first two sentences were correct..but the last few were pieces of texts sent days prior. That the???? I'm so fed up with the lack of help.

i'm having the same issues, my texts are not going through. I can receive some but not all. I have to power off my phone in order for the texts to go through and recently my phone will not turn on unless I plug into a charger. This is crazy as I don;t carry a charger with me at all times.. I'm tired of calling or visiting Verizon and their only solution is a hard reset. These isssues need to be addressed and take care of. I pay a lot of money as I'm sure everyone else does to have less then perfect service!!!!

I'm having the same problems, someone says they text me and I don't get it, or I hear the text alert and don't see it. I also was not getting some calls which the verizon tech say I needed to update my towers which I did. I get the calls but the texts are still messed up and It seems it started after the OS upgrade..... when will it get fixed???

Thank you for your feedback justbeachbee. Adding to what was stated, Are you still experiencing the issue? Are you able to get to text messages and calls from others without any problems? Was it just one message or many messages from the one person? A suggestion would be for you to send a text message to the one person that you were not receive the one message from to see if your message goes through. Then ask that same person to reply back to your sent message to see if it comes back to you. This will test the matter to see if your issue was a one time error or something happening more than once. In getting messed up calls and text, that is a general statement where more details of what your meaning would be helpful. There was mention from other member's postings related to the problems with the OS update. The problems have varied because of specifics of one person's issue was different and unrelated to another person. Please trying the suggestion and reply back if needed with your results. Just Noticed today that I am Having this same problem . Now Im wondering how many important messages Ive missed. I already missed recieving directions to an important meeting . This is so NOT COOL! also adding this . I have tried to reset the phones me and my husband both have same phone . have tried to remove any apps that may cause problems etc.. . Still not working with texting from husband or from others and its on both phones . doesnt matter if person is on same nework or diffrent . AND dont get me wrong we both love our samsung phonses . this is the only problem we have had . Hopefully they fix this because we dont want diffrent phones . This thing has awesome screen and in my opinion is better than an Iphone.

The link provided by the Verizon employee is an insult. It covers just the basics of text messaging and doesn't answer anything about the problems so many of us are having. When will this be resolved? I am missing PHONE CALLS and TEXT MESSAGES after the update a few weeks ago.

I too am not receiving MULTIPLE texts or calls on a daily basis, which is causing unnecessary conflicts. All of this started occuring after this past update.

This is getting to be a bit old, Verizon. Same problems, different phone. How about some proper solutions, and properly working phones now or you will lose a long time customer to another service provider.

Try This Fix was the following: Call cust service. Tell them you're having a problem with your phone and please transfer you to tech support. Tell tech support the problem. Tell them according to the Verizon Wireless community forums, this is a probable fix. Have them 'remove/drop' your phone from their network. They'll need the MEID for this under the battery. Then have them add your phone back to their network. Should take all of a couple minutes, tops. Once they've readded it. Call *228 and do option '1' to activate your phone. Then try the update again. Odds are the updates will now work. This has fixed this exact problem for a lot of people. good luck.

I've had the same issue with missing many txt and calls. I also have been told that some of the txts I send get recieved 5-6 times when I only sent them once! What the heck is going on??????????? We have 4 samsung fascinates on our plan and all three that have the 2.2 update are having the same issues. 2 of them we've had since Nov and didn't have any issues with them until the update. It's been 2 months now since the update though and 2 months of missing calls and txts. This is seriously the most frustrating thing!!!!!! Why is it taking so long for them to fix it??????????

I understand everyone's frustration over this issue and I agree it is taking a long time to resolve this issue. Our product team is still in the process of testing the resolution and we want to make sure that the software is free of errors so something like this doesn't happen again. We don't have any new information other than Samsung provided a resolution, but we are still testing it and working on getting that fix pushed out to users. No date has been communicated. I understand the importance of receiving all your calls and text messages and that customers are tired of waiting. I can't address everyone individually and look at each of your accounts, but I would recommend contacting our tech support at 800-922-0204 option 3 for further options.

After having a few reports of text messages never getting to me, then seeing this thread, I called Verizon tech support. They weren't able to find anything in their documentation about this issue, nor did they have it listed anywhere as a known issue. Does the issue described above occur on the Charge, and if so, is there anything you could give me to help tech support track down the proper IG to address this problem? Even something as simple as a search term or reference # that would allow the Customer Service Rep to pull up the proper document would be helpful.

Hello Funkybot, there was a software update released on 7/28 that resolves issues with missed calls, missed text and poor battery life. If the update has not come to your phone, you can manually download it by going to Settings>About phone>Software Update>Check New.

This issue is still happening with my phone. I have called Verizon Wireless multiple times and every time I call they act very surprised that this is happening. Well, much to my surprise, I get on Verizonwireless.com and go to the help threads and find this lovely discussion amongst other Samsung Fascinate owners who have this same issue with receiving text messages.

I have factory reset my phone 2 times, updated my towers 2 times, done every update, got my messaging software reset by a verizon wireless customer service rep, done the whole "take out the battery" deal too many times, talked to Samsung customer service, got a replacement phone (another Samsung Fascinate) under my warranty, and deleted the majority of my apps.

I think I've pretty much done everything that I could possibily do. I'm done with Droid, now I want Verizon to give me an iPhone under my warranty... this is ridiculous!!

Please tell me what I should do next... maybe I'm missing something..

The issues have been resolved with a software update. If you are still having problems you might try another fasinate. Also I would format your SD card to make sure you aren't passing bad data from one phone to another.

Verizon facilitates the warranty for Samsung, there is no way you are getting and iPhone. And you shouldn't, that's not how any warranty works.

I would try to get a refurb droid x or a blackberry bold if at all possible, it is more likely to happen than an iphone..

Also having the same problems. On my second fascinate and continue to have problems. Seems to get worse every day. In a mission critical health profession and simply can't rely on this phone. There's absolutely no consistent answers from Verizon and a general unwillingness to do the right thing.

Simply the only acceptable solution is for Verizon to (1) let us out of our contracts or (2) reset our anniversary dates, taking back the faulty fascinate phones and allowing us to choose another phone WITHOUT EXCEPTION. This is a safety issue. If you can't rely on your phone to consistently receive calls and texts, it's worthless. This is a major issue just waiting to happen. Anyone want to speculate to the media storm if something tragic happens and it's blamed on the phone?

I need some help!

My phone has been fine up until 3 days ago. Since that time, I have not been able to receive sms text messages from my twilio account. It was working and then it just stopped, also messages stopped on my wive's cell phone as well. She has a LG phone, so it looks like it's not my phone.

On my twilio account, I can see the messages go out and are being sent but I do not receive them. Can you see if Verizon is getting the messages and where the problem might be? BTW, I can receive messages from another twilio account but not mine. Twilio says Verizon is blocking my texts, how can we verify that and correct the problem?

Have you done the *228 option 2? This updates your roaming capabilities, and may improve your receiving the messages.

I started missing text messages a few months ago. Like most of you, I've spent hours on the phone with Verizon tech support - they never seem to know about this issue, yet they all seem to have the Samsung Fascinate. They finally sent me a replacement Fascinate (refurbished), which I received last week.

Sounds like the problem is not with the phone, but with the OS or software? Yes, I've done the *228 option 2 SEVERAL times. Yes, I turn my phone off and back on daily. Yes, I'm on the most recent upgrade. But I'm still missing text messages - it doesn't seem to matter which carrier, either. I've missed messages from someone on Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.

Are there any updates on when this problem will be resolved? This is the only problem I'm experiencing.

This has been a problem for a long time. I have also had the same problem non stop. After the last update that was supposed to fix it, Verizon stopped switching out handsets, which they had been doing since the Fascinate has a severe issue with missing texts/calls. The last update did NOT fix it, and Verizon insists that it has, and has since refused to swap out handsets anymore. I personally called a month ago and had a rep offer to swap out my handset for a Charge, but told me she did not have any more in stock and that she noted my account so I could call back and they would honor it. I did so and the next rep AND their supervisor told me tough **** and we aren't going to do that regardless of it being promised to you. All they will do is replace your Fascinate which does not solve anything since it is the device/software and not just your particular one. I have just been dealing with missing texts and calls constantly since then.

Antonius, I completely agree with you and have been experiencing the same issues with my Fascinate. I am actually the writer of the original post on this thread back in May(!!), and still five months later there has not been a fix. This is unbelievably frustrating and at this rate if I don't switch providers I'll be stuck with this faulty Fascinate until my next upgrade in January 2013!

This is a real shame on Verizon and Samsung.

I cannot rely on a phone to do one of the two main tasks it's suppossed to do: SMS!

I am also having the same problem. Have called support several times and done *228, hard reset, blah, blah, blah. Nothing is helping. I am down to checking my usage details and charting which texts don't come through in the hopes that eventually I'll get Verizon to replace my Fascinate for something that actually works like it should!

I've been experiencing this problem with my phone as well. I have had the fascinate since 10/10 and noticed that it was missing text messages and calls 06/11. I took it into verizon, they asked if I dialed *228 to reset towers (yes i had), they asked if i take out the battery from time to time (yes i had) they did a factory reset, (still had the same problem afterwards) so they swaped it out for a refurbed fascinate. On swapping, the tech support lady suggested I downloaded a cache cleaning app as well, so i did to see if that would help the problem as well as taking out the battery and so on. Just recently i have noticed that I am missing calls and texts again, i'll get random voicemails when i had never recieved a call, or people will get frustrated because I "never responded to thier text message" which in reality i had never received a text message. This is a major problem due to the fact that most of the reason i have my phone is for calling and texting and this issue has even caused me problems for my job. Verizon acts like its my fault or a simple problem that is caused by me "not being in an area where service is good." But i know for a fact that i recieved a picture message and made a clear as day phone call from the same chair i was sitting in when I was sent a text message that i never receieved. PLUS...if it was the towers and reception problem, wouldn't i receieve the message later, when i was in an area that had good reception? I thought it was just me and a freak problem i was having with my phone but now that I see there are multiple people with the same problem and nothing is being done to help everyone with this problem, I am very disappointed in Verizon. I am due for an upgrade next summer and if nothing is resolved by then i'm definitely upgrading with a different provider and taking my family plan with me. This should be no different than a car recall....enough people are having problems that samsung and verizon should work together to make the customer satisfied...I know I am not happy with the way they are handling this problem.

Dear Samsung Fascinate Owners,

It's time to stop relying on Samsung and Verizon to fix this phone. Just go onto Ebay and buy a used phone (Incredible 2 is what I chose) and then turn around and sell your crappy Fascinate. This is the only way the nightmare of the Fascinate is going to end.
