Notifications in top bar missing after update

Used to be able to see if I had a text message before opening phone, now top notification bar just says "Verizon Wireless " how do I change back?

Try this:

Go to Settings

Under Device look for and select Sound and notification

Scroll up to the very bottom

Touch While locked

You are given a choice of what to display on your lock screen (I have mine set to Show all content)

Your notifications will appear as banners on the lock screen

Thanks, I have that, but that is a large obnoxious list and it also doesn't allow me to see the current temperature notification from the weatherbug app. that is always in the top notification bar.  I would like the small simple notifications back.  You could get the large obnoxious list before in KitKat if you wanted it, but you also were able to see the small unobtrusive notifications as well.
