I noticed that the OTA update to Gingerbread was available earlier today. I went ahead and pushed the update. After the update was downloaded, the phone reset and began to update itself. Everything seemed fine up to this point.
After that, the phone seemed to be stuck with the Samsung logo on the screen after a restart. Pulling the battery would of course power it off, but it wouldn't actually make any difference when powered back on. I tried holding down the volume buttons with the power button, but now it is stuck in a manual boot screen with no way out. All I can really do now is turn the phone on and off.
To this point, this update has completely and totally bricked my working phone.

I'm in the same boat as you . I have had my phone since august of last year now and have had no (seriously) problems just ocassional lag.i took the phone into a verizon store and told them that the update screwed up my phone. the lady replied that since my screen was cracked that she could not do anything. I told her that i wasnt looking for a replacement and that all i wanted was for them to fix what they had done. my phone has been perfectly fine even though the screen has been cracked for almost a year so i know its not because of that. all in all i feel very disappointed for being out of a phone when it wasnt my fault
