Persistent security notices after upgrade to Android 4.3

Every time I switch between VZ Data and Wifi, I get a security note that "Unauthorized access to a secured area has been blocked. Tap to learn more." Tapping asks you to update the security policy-- but that comes back and says its already updated. There is also a long post on SE Android but its of no help. There is no information on what app/process is doing the "unauthorized access". Quite frustrating. Other people posting on XDA-DEVELOPERS.COM are also seeing this annoyance.

Have you checked your settings under Settings > Security to see if anything there is turned on that might cause this?

As for me, I haven't seen this error message on the S4 I have.

I have same problem since yesterday. Has your battery life been reduced since last weeks software update?

I believe this is fully related to the new security app "KNOX" from samsung that was loaded during the update. I just "installed" it, apparently its on the phone but not fully installed. I will wait to see if i continue to get those alerts (i have received them non-stop since the update also).

I have noticed the same annoying thing on my S4. I checked the Security settings like Ann154 suggested and if I don't get the Security Notice message when I get home, I will post what changes I made.

I have the same issue. People on http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-samsung-galaxy-s4/328179-verizon-galaxy-s4-security-notice-after-update-4-3-a.html have been saying that the problem will go away after a factory reset. I haven't don't done it yet. I hate factory resets. Helium will help restore app configurations, but I have yet to find a solution to restore OS configurations. Any ideas?

I have to say I am quite disappointed with Samsung here. There have been 3 OS updates on the Galaxy S4. So far, 2 of the 3 required a factory reset in order to really work. I never had this issue with Motorola.

I am not sure why you have had to do factory resets, i have the S4 and got all the updates just fine. After installing KNOX, like i said above, i have yet to receive another notification, i think that is where the problem lies. install it and create the password, notifications will then stop. i hope this helps you all

There are threads over numerous android sites today reporting this problem. It was reported a month ago as well when the overseas SGS4's were updated. Apparently neither Samsung nor Verizon cared to fix the problem short of requiring a complete factoy reset and clean install of all user apps as is being reported on most sites.

I did a live chat with Samsung technical support today. Its one of those sessions where the person on the other end isn't a technical expert and just has various scripts to try. This is the script they suggested I try this evening:

1. Power the device off (remove and re-insert the battery)

2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key

3. When the device vibrates; release only the Power key

4. When the Android system recovery menu displays; release the Volume Up and the Home key.

5. Navigate witth the Volume keys to the WIPE CACHE/PARTITION reset option and press the Power key to select

6. After user data deletes, press teh Power key to reboot system now.

I assume this will wipe all my apps and data? Anybody know the difference between this and just selecting a factory reset from the settings menu?

Can I ask you a few questions about your setup:

(1) Did you factory reset after the upgrade?

(2) Are you signed in to your samsung account?

(3) Did you download Knox? Did you create an account?

(4) Are you using wifi? (This problem appears to only happen when on wifi)

I'm having the same problem. It was appearing before installing KNOX. Don't know why I need KNOX so I uninstalled it and am still getting the stupid message. I'm very disappointed in Samsung on this one.

The settings that I changed had no effect. Still was getting the Security Notice. I did a Factory Reset yesterday evening and have not seen the Security Notice since then.

I did wipe the cache AND did a full factory reset wiiping out my apps and configuration last night.

Even BEFORE I attempted to reinstall any apps, the security notice warnings appeared again whenever I switched between WIFI and cellular.

So I would say that doing a factory reset is NOT the answer and now I have to reinstall and configure my 200+ apps for nothing! :smileysad:

Same thing here. . I did a Complete Factory Reset, and Even Cleared the Cache Partition.

Still Same thing every time it switches from Wifi to Mobile and Vice Versa. Also having trouble connecting to Wifi at work as we have to use the Juniper Juno's Pulse VPN app to access the Wifi.

Hopefully a fix comes soon as it is super annoying.

And Both my Wife and I both have noticed a DRASTIC change in Battery drain. Normally Take the Phone off the Charger around 6am and it will last us all day. Past 2 days, neither one of us can get past about 7pm before hooking it up.

We are ok with that, its just why is it draining more than it used too. You would think Battery useage would be better instead of worse.

The wipe cache won't delete your applications and data.

I refuse to do a factory reset. I just installed all of my apps on my new phone. I must get an alert every hour or so. I no sooner cancel it when another one pops up. I did also notice that my battery wears out much quicker. I hope Verizon is working on eliminating this annoying feature. Get rid of Knox. I am not installing it either.

I did a factory wipe and it has stopped all the stupid KNOX security crap. As far as re-installing all my apps Google did that as soon as I logged in. Not a big deal at all.

Hi Angel26551,

I hear you! I know this the pop-up is a bit frustrating. We currently have two ways that will stop this pop-up from occurring. The first way is to clear the application cache. This will disable it. If you power cycle your phone, the error will reappear. The other way to to disable it is when the pop-up appears click on Update Policy, accepting should stop the pop-up. Keep us posted.

I was plagued by that stupid security notice until I decided to do a hard reset. The security notice pop up stayed away for about a week before it came back again. I searched all over the internet to see if anyone had discovered a permanent cure. My searching came up with nothing. I finally decided to try the Software Repair Assistant (SRA). This is like a hard reset with the exception that it re-downloads the current version of the android software and installs it back on the phone. It does back up your contacts and apps before it wipes the phone and then re-loads the current OS (it does put the contacts and apps back on the phone). If you decide to do this you may want to download the new version of Kies (Kies 3) and let it do a backup before you do the SRA. The SRA does not back up as much as Kies does. So far I have not seen the security notice pop up, but it has only been a couple of days since I used the SRA.

I found a solution. Holding down the notification of the failure then clearing cache and data allowed successful update...it worked for me....so far.

it seems like after i upgraded to android 4.3 .my phone i shaving some isssues with wifi recently. when i should get 15 Mbps downlaod speeed it is showing 1 Mbps. i ahve done all power saving mode to OFF also . and now going to ask for a replacement .samsung us said when i called, they offer help only if my device is manufactured in US. so sad :smileysad:

i hav etried different routers with different wifi bands also. a same galaxy s3 with android 4.3 is giving good speeed unlike this .

so everyone please be aware of this when buying and let me know any solution.

My security update was failing as soon as I'd click it. I just did the same thing, held down on the failure notification, deleted the cache, deleted the data. As soon as my phone connected to wi-fi, I got the error, but THIS time it finally let me update the security policy. Hopefully the errors will stop now, but so far so good.

I FOUND THE SOLUTION. I had downloaded and installed the final Android Adobe Flash Player release from the Adobe archive, therefore from outside of Google Play. So I decided to try and uninstall it. Once uninstalled, the SECURITY issue disappeared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
