There were a bunch of Fascinates that were shipped right from Samsung that would not take updates. You could call the Tech Support number and they can look at your ESN and compare it to the list they have, or you could go to the store. There is also a chance a soft or hard reset could fix it, but a hard (Factory) reset would mean setting things up again. (Apps, etc). Paid for apps would come down automatically.
You should back up your contacts, etc, to make sure you have them before doing any of those things.
you are still covered under manfucaturers warranty, take the phone back to the location you purchased and have them exchange it for another one, have them perfrom the update themselves before you leave.
Hi yoyohan77,
The Froyo 2.2 update/ upgrade for the Samsung Fascinate will be released soon. The update will be sent to these devices when it is released from the manufacture. We apologize for any delay. Since the update is coming from the manufacture, we are still requesting this update 2.2 to be provided as soon as possible and sent to the devices when available.
Thank You,
edw@vzwsupport

completely missed the point.
It's true that some of the Samsung Fascinates were released that are incapable of updating, and you should get that replaced, BUT: DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE DLO9 UPDATE!!! IT BREAKS THE USB MOUNTING FEATURE IN THE PHONE.

I wish i had known that all this update would do is install verizon spamware that is incompatable with mac and some windows, breaking the USB mount. I am now unable to back up anything or put new music on my phone to use it as an mp3 player. Yeah I'm frustrated about 2.2, but how about at least a STATEMENT about the BROKEN USB FEATURE that the DL09 update wrecked THREE MONTHS AGO. This is truly the worst customer service I have ever seen, and all I have to say is NEVER AGAIN. NEVER AGAIN SAMSUNG!!! Verizon + Samsung = the greatest failure in the history of smart phones.

the usb is a minor inconvience, just put it in debugging mode and it works fine

actually, thats incorrect. the usb does not work in debugging mode, at least not on my mac. i have been through this on the phone with samsung as well as verizon, and there are many people online that are complaining about the same thing. verizon has actually offered new phones to people because of this issue. ive had to go to a friends house and use it on his windows computer, and even then the only way i can get it to work is by resetting the computer while the phone is plugged in. if i had known this before as a mac user, i would have never downloaded this crappy update that does basically nothing except wreck the usb

The fascinate update will be released soon!? Unless you are Rip Van Winkle who slept for 20 years and 2 days soon doesn't matter. To those of us who have been waiting for the hollow promises of froyo, soon means we should have had froyo months ago!

aaahhh a mac, didnt see that in the other part, but it does work for a win7 system
there are workarounds for the mac, look over at android forums or xda
macs get over looked alot since they are such a small percentage of computers (not ment to offend)
