I drove to a shopping center with my Galaxy S3 in my pants pocket. After getting out of my car and locking it with the remote button on the car key I put the key in the pocket with the phone. Half way through shopping I noticed that the phone had gotten much hotter than normal. I took it out and saw it was dark and not responsive to activation. I laid it in my shopping cart to cool down.
After cooling I couldn't get it to boot up. When I got home I plugged it into the charger but still no reaction. I used my computer and Skype to call Verizon support. An very helpful agent walked me through the removal of my battery for a few seconds and a reinstall. After putting the cover back on I was relieved to find the phone started up and everything was fine.
I am posting this in hopes that Verizon will investigate if there is a safety issue with having a phone and a car key with remote capability next to one another. Could they reproduce the problem I had? I'm not sure if the overheating had caused the phone to turn off automatically or if the closeness of the two devices would have caused the phone to get even hotter had I not felt it and separated them.
Either way, I think some lab testing is called for.

I don't think so... I am sure millions of people have had their phones in their pockets with their remote keys, I would think this would be common knowledge by now if it were an issue.
Besides... if there was ever a reason not to keep your phone in your key pocket, its to avoid your key scratching your phone screen, lol
