Phone sends multiple copies of a single text

My Galaxy S3 has a new problem, starting about a week ago. Sometimes when I send a text, the recipient will get 10,15, or 20 copies of it. They alert me, I power cycle my phone, and it stops. It has happened with different people on different networks.
At about the same time, I noticed that it also would not connect to 3G or 4G for data. Went through a power cycle routine with some sequence of turning on/off WiFi and it recovered from this, but still has the first issue of sending multiple copies of text messages.
Anyone else have this, or know what I should do?
Thanks
Paul W.

paul--w,
Sounds like it has a mind of it's own. I wouldn't want my phone to send 20 texts like that. Try resetting the messaging app: http://vz.to/1nhZ1c5 , then power it down and remove the battery for 20 seconds, replace the battery and back cover and power on. Retest and let us know how it's working.
