Phone usage while outside US

New to this Samsung GS3.  Going on a cruise.  How do I block all voice, text, and data while out of the country, but still be able to use the phone for audio, video, games, alarms, etc.?  I don't want any added charges while I am out of the country.

okay, I want to do the same thing while in Mexico but while I am at the house we rented we have wifi. As soon as I turned that on to use e-mail along with games and music, kindle.... all the text messages started pouring in.

HELP that has to be a way to block all calls & text

Airplane mode.  Turn on wifi when you want to connect to a wifi network.

I would suggest turning on airplane before you board the ship to avoid connecting to any cellular network booster on the ship.

Yep.  It turns off all the radios in the phone.

Thanks.  I have read some on the web while waiting for a reply.  Looks like this is exactly what I wanted to know.  It does sound like I can still turn on wifi while in Airplane mode, and surf the web or check email.  Would you agree?

Which phone model do you have? If it is an iPhone and the messages you received were iMessages, then they would have been transferred over the wifi network.

Keeping the Tbolt in Airplane mode will prevent calls and texts. Then you can turn on wifi to access a nearby wifi network.
