Poor radio signal

Just got the Nexus yesterday, and my 3G signal is -100dbm to -120dbm. My Iphone 4 was -85dbm to -93dbm in the same area. Have not had a problem with calls, but I will lose data signal. Have tried to set it to CDMA only, does not make a difference. Is anyone else having signal issues with the Nexus?

Only everyone that has the phone. I've notice that all these issues we have on the verizon nexus, have been around for a while on earlier released gsm verisons, etc and I don't see any of these getting fixed.

With the new update they've pushed out if you havent got it yet should help with radio issues

I believe we all got that update the moment the phone was activated. Perhaps the next update. latest is 4.02

I just purchased the Samsung Nexus and the signal stength is awful. Even the 3g signal is poor. I was standing right next to two of my sons who each have a droid and their signal was full strength while mine was non existant. In my office with my Droid I always had full strength. I live in Orlando and have never had a weak signal anywhere.....until now.

I wanted to chime in here too. I have nothing to add other than an additional affected user. I feel like the Galaxy Nexus has a radio issue as my girlfriend switched from ATT to Verizon with a iPhone 4S and her signal is substantially better in the same locations. Granted, LTE is a little different but there must be an issue. I'm in Chicago, a huge urban environment and I know there is good coverage.

Just disappointing since I made the jump from Tmo to Verizon on their touted "spectacular coverage & speed" and this device is leaving me wishing I either waited or stayed where I was.

I returned the Nexus, to me a good radio is expected on a high end phone. I'm not going to spend weeks or months dealing with drop calls and data issues, hoping a software update fixes the issue. Might be better in different areas of the country. Went from -100 to-120dbm nexus back to -83 to-95 on old phone, no problems with voice or data. Good luck hope it is only software.

I have seen the issue with the signal bars being absent and the dbm also being at 100+ but the Nexus has held 3g so much better than my Droid X, Droid 2 or Droid Incredible 2 that I'm not going to complain. I work in what is best described as a cement bunker and I have never had consistent 3g. With the nexus I get no bars but, I still have a solid 3g connection and I have not once dropped to 1x like the other phones did constantly.

There are tons and tons of these reports across the internet. This is a serious issue and hopetully it's not a typical crap Samsung radio, but rather software. This was the major reason I dumped the Samsung Charge, a lousy radio that never got fixed.

Reference this page and see it's not actually the phone itself, it's the network. There are many of sites now proving it to be the network.

I did side by side signal comparisons between my Galaxy Nexus and my Thunderbolt (w/newest update), phones are about dead even in signal strength. Problem I am having is when my nexus leaves my wifi network and tries to connect in 3g or 4g only voice and text messaging works. Signal bar will stay gray and I have to reboot the phone for it to connect to data to work again. Now many sites are saying that's also an issue with multiple Verizon LTE enabled phones.

Lets give it time and hopefully they will work out the kinks.

yeah, but yet the problem still remains. the only way i could get signal back, for only a few minutes, was to entirely reset the phone/wipe data.

Could have just as easily been a bad update i got, some 00101's may have gotten screwed up during Tx into 10101 or something... who knows with all the problems I have had in 12 hours with it (5... yes FIVE factory restores in that time...)

I know what you mean... I am giving it one more try before I tell them to stick it, because a new phone should NOT have prototype issues. Makes me wonder about samsung's mobile dept's R&D and QC processes....

I am a Sprint user who is thinking about switching to Verizon due to the crappy 3g service I'm getting with my Galaxy S2 so I stopped by here to see if there were similar problems with Samsung phones. Apparently there are. What I saw on the sprint network is that HTC phones in low signal strength areas were far superior to my galaxy S2. My colleague and I did side by side tests, both on sprint, in low signal areas and his HTC Evo was able to browse the web without issue while my Samsung Galaxy S2 could not even open one of the web pages he was browsing. This has been reported by hundreds of Galaxy S2 users on Sprint forums conducting similar tests.

In medium to good signal areas, Samsung's phones work fine. It is when you get to low signal areas where their phones start to struggle. Samsung is clearly using inferior radios/antannae in their phones.

Over at the sprint forums, we were all hoping the same thing. We waited for the update and when it finally came, fixed the loss of service issue that was crippling thousands of phones, but didn't improve the 3g performance problems . Many of the GS2 users also reported GPS problems where the GPS radio struggled to lock on to the satellites and wi-fi problems. Basically, anything radio related, the Galaxy S2 was struggling. The speed of the phone is amazing though and its unfortunate that the radios aren't up to the task.

There seem to be two problems with the Nexus and Verizon is lumping both into one.

1. The issue with the meter (signal bar) strength not reflected properly. That is the number of bars are not correct with the actual signal strength.

2. Actual usage without regard to what the meters state.

For example, I had the OD and upgraded to the Rezound. With the Rezound I received excelent data reception (don't ask how many bars, i don't care about what the bars reflect I care about my actual connection).

The OD would get 2-4 mb down on 3G. The Rezound got 15 - 22 Mb on 4G. At my house.

The Nexus, keeps sliping in and out of 4 G. Best download so far has been 8Mb on 4G at the same location.

At work the OD got 3g all the time. The Rezound 4G all the time. Nexus 4g sometimes 3 g most of the time and even drops to 1x and no DATA at all.

So there IS a problem with the phone. If the OD can get excellent 3G reception at home, at work and on the road then the Nexus should at least match that performance in 3G and exceed it in 4G. The Rezound was able to do so, why can't the Nexus.

(Note: returned the Rezound due to audio problems when connected to the car's AUX)

I have the GSM version and have no consistent radio problems. It didn't play well with AT&T, as it would lose the network connection totally. However, that may have been due to the fact that I was using a microSIM card with an adapter, and the fit wasn't the greatest. I didn't have any problems with a T-Mobile SIM card and my signal is an outstanding -59 dBm on H2O Wireless.

Ouch they've been talking about the radio issue with the GNx on Android Central an on Droid-Life an one of them said that the radio in the phone an signal strengh was too strong or something like that an that Verizon was going to Tame it back. Call that puzzling i never heard of it. this is scratch your Head time an i'll tell ya makes me want to hang on to my X a little While Longer that is untill they get some things cleared up on these new Crop of Phones. I hate to say this an hope i'm Wrong but it sounds like this phone is doing the same thing as the Facinate has done went off the Diving Board an never really came out the water. Shame! an to some that's getting this for Christmas it may be a early return item!. B33

Having the same issues as you all. 102db, on 4G and 92 on 3G in a decent coverage area. It sickens me. Especially how Verizon has deemed it a problem with the signal indicator and not the phone itself. If you guys do end up returning it, any plans on how you are to keep your 2 year upgrade and avoid the 15% restock fee? Thats one of the main things keeping me "hoping" that Ill wake up one day before the 15th and the signal will be good or the phone wont act retarded (reboots, quirky things, signal switching, etc). That and I dig the screen/formfactor/google branding. This phone has issues, clearly. More so than any phone Ive ever had and thats going back to the original Motorola StarTac (clearly not a smartphone). But still, I want it to work. I want it to get better. Like a fledgeling relationship, I wanna try. Its just, the clock is ticking to the 15th and I dont wanna be stuck with a lemon or a decive that will never recieve updates that shouldve been incorportaed at launch to prevent the phone from having issues such as reception comporable to 2 dixie cups tied to string. The thing thats most upsetting is those talking about not having any of the forementioned issues. Why did they get the "good" GNex's while we all may be stuck with these "things"? If we wait and put our faith in Google/Samsung/Verizon will we be rewarded with updates that allow our phone to work as good as those who praise it, without any issues?

Well a 15% restocking fee these days i' ll say is going to be hard to get out of unless you can get the Rep to Wave it. When i got my X an my Incredible there was a restocking Sticker on the box. But like i said if this phone is going to be prone to Issues then i'd get something Els. Unless you want to be in for the long haul of waiting for Updates an issue related problems to Subside. An with this Device being So New it's hard to Tell how long it'll be before Samsung can get the issues straighten out of it. If they can at all an they're not to Quick on getting updates out as well. Good sentiments B33. I just believed, way too much in this phone, I guess, which is not to say Im gonna take it back. I may be willing to wait and deal with updates and a multitude of batteries. But that is only because I have been dying for a replacemnt to my Incredible for a while now. Funny though...my incredible has a better signal than this and seems more stable (not quicker though) and was rooted to boot (better battery too, by double)! Funny. I suppose I wish it wouldve been an HTC Nexus but I always kinda liked Sammy. Good HDD and great/yet expensive LCDs. I hope all the horror stories of samsung being bad about updates are overblown. Specifically because I thought the fixes would come by Google, and they would be rolled out with greater regularity since the Nexus corwd pays more to be in bed with the developers. Still up in the air but atleast its not an iphone 3.04G/s? or whatever.

Guys updates are coming from google not Samsung. This phone (Thank god ) doesn't have touch wiz. This phone has been better than the bionic and the razr (droid) I had before it.

I went into Verizon yesterday about the signal issue. Apparently they have a widespread issue beyond just the Galaxy Nexus. This is ridiculous.

I returned my phone, was losing service a few times a day, two different 4G phone. Old 3G phone no problems. This buy a phone and then wait for a update or two so 4G and 3G work as advertised is getting out of control. The radio in the phone should work properly when released. If it is the LTE network, stop advertising it until it works with the LTE phones that Verizon is pushing. I refuse to pay Verizon to test there devices and 4G services. Good luck to everyone with a 4G phone.
