Random restart after recent 10/14 update

I installed the recent update yesterday and ever since have had random reboots. I have tried several manual reboots including pulling the battery but still rebooting on it's own. Anyone else here having the same problem? Posting on other sites indicate that others are experiencing the same problem. Need a fix immediately as the phone is just about useless to use!

Did the update last night and same thing - random restarts. Never had this problem before the update and haven't changed anything.

A factory reset fixed the issue for me. Also, another fix without resetting your phone if your are techy....

As posted in the comments on Android Police:

"To fix the problem... Turn phone off.....turn the phone on while holding the home, volume up, and the power button.... Release the power button once the phone vibrates, but continue holding the volume up and home until you reach the bootloader screen..... Use the volume rocker the highlight the wipe cache partition.....select by using the power button......once it is finished highlight reboot system now."

I rebooted into recovery and wiped cache. That didn't change anything. I don't know why I would have to do a factory reset - I never had to with any other update. Verizon better give us an update to fix the update. This is ridiculous - I can hardly use my phone now. Very frustrating!

Im also having problem with random reboots. So far my phone has rebooted 5 times today. Also my phone keeps freezing and its running very slow.

If I were in your shoes I'd back up important content and write down critical settings and perform a FDR. Updates do not necessarily successfully install and play nicely with existing software. People that have been on Android for a number of years and have updated devices plan for FDRs.

Of course the OEMs and carriers would like to think the updates can be written to avoid these problems, but it's not a deterministic thing. Sometimes you'll be successful, and sometimes you won't.

Why would I need to dp a factory reset!!!! Your telling me you guys made a mistake on the update that causes the phone to no longer work?

Had the same issue. Checked my Power Settings, and they were fine, cleared the cache partition as mentioned in this feed, and tried those last night. This morning, it restarted 4 times within 5 hours. I got tired of it, backed up my info(through it restarted one or 2 times while attempting), then did the factory reboot. 9+ hours and no rebot thus far.

Hope this helps someone, it may be a pain, but I would rather have a working phone than trying to fight for a new one.

Wiping the cache does not work. Factory reset is the only option.

Raffi_B, we don't want this to be an ongoing issue for you. Have you downloaded 3rd party applications to your device? If so, those applications may be conflicting with the recent software update. Try deleting any unwanted application on your device and power it off/on to soft reset. Keep us posted.

I've done a partition clearing and a factory reset TWICE and it hasn't helped at all with these reboots.

Mine is doing the same. I did the wipe cache tthing and I haven't noticed a reboot in several hours but the main screen freezes every now and then.

IM tempted to just do a full reset but some say it didn't help.

bTW what is FDR?

I have the same issue, since I have done the update phone is constantly rebooting. Despite what Verizon says about placing the blame on Samsung they add their own customization to these updates that tends to break them. My girlfriend has the same phone on t-mobile and has never had a problem with updates screwing up her phone because they actually QA there updates, might be time to make a switch.
