Long Press on the picture. It will vibrate and say 1 Selected on the top. Press on the Menu (three vertical dots, top right side of the screen), choose Delete, then choose Delete again.
To select multiple pictures, After the first long press, just press on the other pictures to select (there will be an outline around each picture), then Menu->Delete->Delete
Alternative way to Delete, open up the picture, then press on the trash can at the top of the screen.
Second Alternative way - Download a file manager app, use it to go to mmnt/sdcard/DCIM/Camera and delete the pictures from there.

Thanks for an answer.
BUT none of that stuff seams to work.
The file manager says the sdcard is empty?
I have two groups of photos on the phone.
I took 26 photos this New Year and three others I uploaded from the computer.
The three I uploaded the menu an delete delete works, but the other
26 in the gallery there is no delete selection that comes up?
thanks.

Hook up the phone to your computer. Using the file explorer, navigate to DCIM/Camera, right click on the picture you want to delete, and choose delete.

Thanks again,
all that shows up are the three photos I up-loaded.
When I go to the Gallery all 26 are still there?

Have they been uploaded to Picasa or Google+? They would be marked by a symbol in the lower left hand corner of the preview.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Thanks for all your help. It would have been much easier if they provided a user manual so that
I could have figured it out myself.
NOW if we can increase the volume on the phone, I've down loaded a lot of Apps none work for me.
Tks

the droid x manual was included but it's not much of a help in many things & the one on-line is just bigger print/pics.
