Retreiving deleted text messages

Is there a way to retreive text messages that have been deleted?

Did you have them backed up somewhere (cloud, Verizon Messages)?  If not, then once deleted from the phone, they're gone, unfortunately.

I have Cloud but only my pictures were backed up.
