S III Screen will go black and not respond

Phone is still on. Have to take the battery out and reboot. Screen will be ok on startup, but once it goes off, I cannot get it back. Tried it in safe mode, same result. Anyone know my next step? Factory reset?

I had the same issue since the latest update---I even got a replacement phone--same issue
I think it is the software update.
Verizon---any thoughts?

Used Repair Assistant program via my PC. Helped somewhat. Problem became intermittent. Updated software and now it is chronic. Very frustrating. Can't use my phone unless I pull the battery.
