S4 with 5.0.1 will not support text messaging feature in 2016 Mazda3 OSS v55.00.753 (latest). Other S4 with 4.4.x works fine.
Phone with 5.0.1 works with text feature on Ford MFT and an aftermarket JVC just fine.

No issues connecting. Phone, music and Pandora work fine. Permission is given for the car to access text messages. No text messages are displayed. When accessing the phone's Bluetooth settings on the CAR, the text messaging menu is grayed out. The other S4 that you never sent the update for (4.4.x) works fine in this car. Mazda says that the phone is supported for the text feature, but who knows what OS version they tested.
I paired and unpaired the phone at least six times with no change in outcome. Text message feature works fine on two other cars (not Mazdas).
