S5 Setup, Data Transfer

HarleyandOakley

The Details:

- Original s5 screen is InOp- no activity, unable to access any files or apps. It is blank, dead, unresponsive

- While setting up the new s5 (same model, build, OS, everything), just after everything was initialized, I got a message saying I could turn the old one on, place it back to back with the new one, and my files would transfer (whoopee! A native function that does this without me needing to unlock the phone, download an app, change a setting, etc!)

- Files were transferring (all 1,133 of them), phone was finishing setup (not accepting texts or calls yet, but on and apps working and I was on WiFi), when it said it had an update to install

- It DID NOT indicate a shutdown, just an installation.

- Phone shutdown, restarted, and the file transfer was no longer taking place, and I cannot find the system function that was performing the task.

Here's What I Do Know:

- I did not have any third party apps on either phone to do this- it was a native function of the setup process

- This IS NOT the Samsung Cloud phone to phone transfer. I have tried and it doesn't find the original phone

- This DID NOT require NSP to be active (as I said, I cannot access any of those settings, it was just doing it)

System Info:

- Model SM-G900V

- Android Version 5.0

- Kernal 3.4.0

- Hardware Version G900V.05

What I Would Appreciate:

- Not being told to (or asked why I didn't) back my phone up. I am really not happy about that answer.

~ I DO back my phone up but I have a life and cannot spend a day a week backing my **** phone up

~ I paid a lot of money for something that should just do a basic function without prompting (like, say, the iPhone)

~ Third party apps suck. I don't care what you say or what you think or believe. It is your opinion, to which you are entitled. Even if it is wrong.

~ It is irrelevant. I have a lot of stuff that is not backed up and cannot be. Telling me what I "should" have done helps me not. Thank you Captain Hindsight.

~ On a side note, why are these systems not automatically backing up text messages? Don't give me some ** about space and cost (really don't need to give me anything at all- this is just one is just a rant). In this day and age of micro tech, it isn't a big deal anymore

Does anyone know what the system function was that was performing the transfer process? It definitely didn't complete (said it had 4 days left). I really need some text messages and a few other things that were importing.

Thanks!

HarleyandOakley,

We definitely would love to see you with all the content on your phone restored. Some Samsung devices have the option of Samsung Account. This is a native application and this may have been what was syncing on your phone. Please go to Settings>Samsung Account to view the last time synced and to sync again. Another thing that you may want to look into is S-Beam. Though this may have been a less likely option to have started, as the "sending" phone would have initiated this request. But you can view steps for S-Beam here http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-98593/
