SD Card wiped by recent VERIZON OTA update. Anyone else having this issue?

I have an 8gb sd card in my phone. Ive never had any issues with it. For some reason after Verizon pushed their update today my phone restarted to complete the update. Once it was on again I went to check my text messages and as soon as I unlocked my phone a messg popped up that said the SD card had been improperly unmounted. I hadnt touched the card or removed it. When I went thru the setting to mount the card that option stayed gray. The phone didnt even recognize that the sd card was still inserted in it. I then shut doen my phone and removed the card to put into a card reader to see if i could retrieve anything I had on there and it didnt show me anything except the fact that the card was corrupt. Did this happen to anyone else with todays update?

Yeah, it happened to me also when I got my OTA Jelly Bean update in December. Luckily being a computer geek, I always backup all my data off anything I own...

I'm so sorry for that terrible inconvenience, sg3owner! That is definitely not the sort of changes anticipated with an update. However being an electronic device, glitches can happen. Is the SD card now being read? Did you have the information backed up to a computer? If so, you can format the card to the device (if necessary), and connect the phone to the computer and copy/paste. Keep me posted!

Thanks,

I appreciate the reply. Unfortunately, I was not able to retrieve anything from the card. An attempt at formatting didn't work either. Even more unfortunate is the fact that I did not haven anything backed up. That was a huge mistake on part. I do know better and simply kept procrastinating on getting that done. I've purchased a new card and will be sure to back up anything of importance to me regularly from now on. Thank you again for the reply.

I just had this same issue with this last update last week.  Verizon will not claim responsibility, and neither will Samsung. They both claim its the others fault.  I would like a resolution, but the only way to really get to them is to quit their service.  They did however offer me a new SD card...like that is going to get my data back...no I am going to pay 250-800 to get my data off my corrupted card (card was working just fine before the update, as that is where my music is and that is what I was doing right before).  I consider this to be their early term fee, but I am going to pay it elsewhere.  OTA goes bad...no one wants to be responsible.

Yes, me too. After the Verizon update to my S3 last week, my SD card has no data. I lost hundreds of photos, songs, and other documents. I went to the Verizon store where they were completely indifferent and unapologetic. They only confirmed that yes, indeed, my card has no data. Thanks for your help!

How can this happen? How can a major company with millions of customers release an "update" that wipes data? It's ridiculous. It's worse than that. It's blatantly irresponsible because this is a *known* problem. It's obvious from the comments online that this has happened many times before. Verizon owns this problem and should take responsibility.
