Is there another way to send text messages besides SMS?

What are you trying to do? There are apps like KIK messenger that text completely outside of SMS/Verizon-your phone number. There are apps that work with your verizon phone like Handcent SMS that give you more view options (like background colors and stuff). I'm not sure what you're looking to do - but the KIK messeges don't show up on your bill. Search sms or text messenger in play store and look at the descriptions to see if any fit your needs, like Go SMS Pro or Chomp.
