Why does my Galaxy Nexus use Apple Safari 4 as the default web browser as opposed to Google Chrome?

Google Chrome browser is in beta application form and available from the Play Store.

The default Internet browser on the Galaxy Nexus is an application called "Browser". I am not sure what it is based on.

Did you download Safari to the phone? Are is there some other reason you think Safari is installed? I do believe many of the mobile versions of websites follow the iphone framework for where the functions and links are in the site.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I wasn't sure about the browser so I asked the question on the Google mic and several responses came back saying it appeared the browser was Apple Safari. The reason I'm asking is Gmail provides two different display modes depending on the browser. If not using a fully supported browser, some of the functions will not work, e.g., spellcheck, keyboard shortcuts, etc.

I think you answered my question. That is, the default browser is "Browser." I guess I don't really need to know the specifics.

No, I did not download Safari, but I did download Google Chrome and Firefox and opening Gmail in each to see how they respond.

Thanks again,
