Will the Samsung Fascinate every get Android 2.2? I am patient and can wait, but it is not clear that this smartphone wil every be updated.
O I think they care just not about us.
They Care about selling new phones and Contracts that is all
I think they want us to be unhappy that = New phone sale at full Price or ETF $$$$$

Zero bugs? There is no such device. I came from BlackBerry, they have bugs. My friends with Iphones have bugs, and my friends with Androids have bugs. Does Froyo have a few, yes. Does Eclair have them, yes. And will Gingerbread,Honeycomb, and future OS's have them? YES THEY WILL...............
I agree with other posters. Froyo runs well enough on the Fascinate for release. The best testers in the world are the users. As problems occur patches can be developed.
I think they are more underlying reasons it hasn't been released.
SFObrien has a point. The numbers of requests for help to deal with bugs in any single version of custom ROM really doesn't really seem higher than the requests here dealing with bugs in the corporate ROM.
The only real difference is at xda often you can actually communicate with the dev who wrote the ROM.
maybe, but the actual problem is just lack of communication. vzw is never forthcoming on anything, never has been, never will be.
heck they only gave 2 days notice for the thunderbolt release. almost as if they are setting that up for failure, but it still should sell well, just may not sell out unless they have low stock
how can they put a date on the update when they don't know how long it's going to take to fix?
This isn't the first time that they have done an update. They may not know exactly when it will be ready but they surely should know about when it will be ready. It didn't take long for the devs at xda to come out with a good working update. Another problem with samsuck and verizon is that they refuse to communicate with their customers! They know about when it will be ready, tell us! Personally I think it is ready but is being held back for business purposes.
my biggest gripe with samsung is that they are making new hardware, the galaxy s 2, yet haven't even solved the software issues with the fascinate. i made a thread below this one about flooding samsung with calls all at the same time, but im doubtful ill be able to mobilize people to do anything except complain on forums like this. if we can just get enough people to flood them at the same time, we can put some serious pressure on them. like i said in another post, vibrant owners did this and had their update the next day! it may have been a coincidence, but we certainly have nothing to loose
no, you choose to be stuck. there are plenty of options out there.

2.1 is not a crappy OS. It needs to be updated in order to be compatible with some websites, and newer apps in the market.

I have one that already has 2.2 [Edited to comply with Terms of Service]. Looks like I may be Thunderbolt bound to get that unlimited LTE while it lasts.

Actually some were lied to. Customer service reps did lie to potential and existing customers as far back as November. If it was to close a sale and earn their commission they should be terminated. If it was just passing on bad information from their higher ups it shows a severe lack of communication and professionalism.

2.1 is a fine os, the fascinate runs 2.1 as well as others run 2.2
while an update would be nice, its not a life altering event
2.1 can do flash just as well as ios

That is not the newest. Baseband .EB01 is currently newest.
I know eb01 is newest Baseband but i would miss calls on that one tried a few times .

Interesting. Haven't had any signal issues yet with mine.
I spoke with Tech support (both the front line tech and management) and they told me that the Fascinate will NOT get the android 2.2 update. I asked them about gingerbread and they said they didn't have any information on if and/or when we would get that update either.
This was last week (3/9/2011).
I am surprised to hear that! I did think at some time froyo would be released when it suited samsung and verizon.
call them yourself. I ranted at the tech support person for 5 minutes before I asked for a supervisor. The supervisor called me back about an hour later and I ranted at him for a while. In the end there wasn't much point in ranting, he couldn't do anything for me anyway.

The Froyo 2.2 update/ upgrade for the Samsung Fascinate will be released soon. The update will be sent to these devices when it is released from the manufacture. We apologize for any delay. Well, when you consider that most people upgrade between 12 and 20 months, if an upgrade doesn't happen soon it may never happen. VZW wants to sell units and now with the 4G units why will they look back to support 3G units? If the upgrade was to happen we would have 2.2. I don't believe it will com or I should say, I'll have a new smartphone before any upgrade.
Looking from a sales prospective; 3G will be pretty much be a dead horse in about 3 more years if that long everyone is going to want a 4G smart phone even if they can't get 4G. Really. I see people wanting the ?Fascinate even though it can't get 2.2 just because its an android and they have no clue what 2.2 really is yet. Only those of us who really understand whats missing here can really be upset (well besides me I could really not care) Best options is to keep a cool head and continue to gather informtation and try to see if its going to happen and if not see if you will want a new phone, carrier, or what?
