Now that the Samsung Galazy S4 'Unpacked' event has come and gone. When can we expect this phone to become available with Verizon Wireless? This has always been the 'Real' event I've been interested in.
I'm eligible for an upgrade in 5 days, so I'm thinking of holding off until the Galaxy 4 is released (using a Fascinate today). All I'm hearing so far is that it could be as soon as late April, so I'm guessing it won't be until May.
I heard on the NBC TODAY show that it will hit most carriers, Including VERIZON, around the last week in April. Specifically i am pretty sure the date was April 24th! i AM RIGHT THERE WITH YOU I HAVE BEEN ELIGIBLE SINCE OCTOBER 2012 - JUST BEEN WAITING TO SEE WHAT THE next big thing is. SO WHAT'S ONE MORE MONTH.
this phone looks ridiculous. i've never laid out the $$ for the full retail price of a phone, but this one may tempt me too!!!!
This should be my last phone.. Who will need anything else after this beast...

I'd rather have a DNA - I suspect the S4 will have the same reception issues as the Samsung Galaxy and Samsung S3.
Idk the htc one looks better then the DNA but its not coming to Verizon
i liked the dna until i saw it has 11 gigs of formatted storage. that makes it completely useless to me. we haven't had reception issues with my wife's gsiii, but we live in phoenix, which has VERY good coverage.
Are we saying this bad boy will out perform the Samsung Galaxy Note II. Just less the pen?
Of course the S4 gonna be better lol.
and smaller....lol
Unfortunately the stats you just said, the Octacore is international only, we will get the Quadcore version, same as the S3, we have dual core international has a Quadcore S3.
I can see that everyone is excited for this device! We haven't announced any details yet or release dates. Keep checking news.vzw.com for updates. You can also sign-up for alerts on new products and services here: http://bit.ly/dDumph.MarquiaF_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
AT&T has announced that it will begin taking orders on April 16. $249
http://www.androidauthority.com/att-galaxy-s4-pre-orders-249-99-contract-april-16-180204/
Me too with the 10/2012 thing. I just wish they would give an actual date now.
Yeah, I just saw that. that's what brought me here - to see if anyone had a date too.
DONT GET ON VERIZON. Knowing Verizon they will lock it down just like they did the S3 and Note 2. I would get it unlcoked if possible.
The specs are great, but we can count on NOT seeing the 64GB version ever in the US on any carrier. AT&T typically doesn't even go above 16GB and my expectation is Verizon will at least offer the 16GB and 32GB, perhaps not at launch but very shortly afterwards. I am already looking for accessories to be ready but I won't take a 16GB version, 32GB or no deal. Given the fact you cant put apps on the SD cards anymore (thanks Google) having at most 10-11GB of usable space is unacceptable.
If Verizon did offer the 64GB they would sell, just make them pre-order only, I mean they do carry the 16/32/64GB for Apple so why not Samsung.
The GN2 is a great device even at 720p display, its the lack of internal storage that kills it. I had it for 2 months but just could not deal with the lack of storage. Android devices need a minimum of 32GB regardless of microSD card slots.
We know that Verizon hasn't announced it, Verizon never announces anything with other carriers and likely won't until all of the other major US carriers have announced and/or launched theirs. Why must Verizon be last, I am seriously considering porting my number to AT&T just so I can get the phones I want when I want and not be encumbered by carrier delays and locked down devices I paid for.
I would gladly order a developer edition GS4 from Samsung directly, BUT, when will they offer it? How long after the GS3 did a developer edition arrive for Verizon?
Apparently U.S. Cellular has also announced an April 16 pre-order date. The article speculates that the phones will actually ship in late April.

I'm eligible for upgrade now, will be off my contract in 3 months. Everyone else will have launched the GS4 by then, but I'm not sure Verizon will have. If they get their act together and release it in the next 30-40 days I'll renew and stay for a further 2 years, otherwise I'm going for an HTC One with AT&T.
Ah, Verizon. The company I love to hate. Most locked down phones in the industry. When you think of the HTC One, my understanding of the matter is that it's not clear that Verizon will offer it. I'm really torn between the S4 and the One. Too bad Verizon hasn't said doodoo about either. The company I love to hate. Until now I've stayed here because of family group tethering. But, as more of us get unlimited phone calls, I hope to shake the dust of Verizon off my feet. Did I mention that Verizon is the company that I ......
Right now Verizon's "flagship" android phones were released over 5 months ago. AT&T is being loud and proud about offering the HTC One and Samsung S4 this month, but have not heard anything from Verizon. Makes me want to switch.
has at&t released anything special in the past 5 months? i hear what your saying, but verizon never announces things as early as the other carriers. a couple months ago we were all told the One would be out in march on all the other carriers, and some verizon customers threw a fit. still no One as far as i know, on any US carrier yet? verizon announces when they KNOW they can sell and ship it to their customers.
Well according to a photo from staples that was leaked it has it we can get the S4 on May 30th.. This is just obscured in every possible way, verizon is getting crapped on by pitiful carriers like T-Mobile and claim to be the best on the market. I don't understand how Veizon can release new phones over a month after its competitors and call themselves a business. Lucky it's the only worthy carrier in Iowa or I'd mail my phone to verizon <Profanity deleted and image removed per the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service.>

Samsung has created a page where you can sign up for news about the Galaxy S 4.
http://www.samsung.com/us/register/galaxy-s-4-smartphone/
"In anticipation of record sales, Samsung is blanketing the U.S. with its phone. The Galaxy S4 will be carried by AT&T, Cricket, C Spire, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, and will also be sold through Best Buy stores, Costco, RadioShack, Sam's Club, Staples, Target, and Walmart in the coming weeks.
Although each carrier and store will announce its own pricing structure for the smartphone, which Samsung makes in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB capacities, expect an on-contract price starting at $199 for the 16GB version and about $50 more for double the internal storage."

Well no matter I will be buying the Galaxy S4 when it come out, off contract for sure so I can ditch Verizon as soon as my contract is up. They enticed me with LTE originally and the Nation's fastest network but if they can't get this 'stuff' together and play nice with the rest of the world then what gives? If this device was announced and released on time this decision would have been much different. Why so high and mighty Verizon that you can't make a simple announcement as to your plans like to rest of the carriers? Luckily the Verizon Galaxy S4 looks like it will come with HSDPA access so I can switch to another carrier! Thanks VZW!

P.S. Thanks for not letting us keep our ""Grandfathered"" unlimited data as well!!

You do realize a Verizon Galaxy S 4 won't work on another carrier. Also nowhere did Verizon say you could keep unlimited data forever.
A Verizon Galaxy S4 will work on another carrier as it supports GSM radio SIM cards and I will be buying the device unlocked so it will not be tied to VZW. Also I do get to keep my unlimited data as I will be by buying the device outright....

Let's hope that Staples memo is wrong wrt the VZW release date. I got the Thunderbolt on its release date in April 2011 and am not out-of-contract (along with all those other Tbolt users). Sprint stands to make a killing on disappointed VZW customers who won't be punked into being last to get the latest.
If VZW wants to impress its customers, here's the opportunity!
they might lose a few, but i doubt 3 days and $100 is enough to sway customers to sprint. i have friends with the note II on sprint. comparing mine to theirs is like night and day. $100 off for a phone that you'll have for nearly 2 years is about $4/month that it saves you. sprints speed and coverage just isn't worth it (in my area anyway).
Yeah sure sure.
Um no they won't be losing many customers. Most people are mature enough to not switch carriers over a 1 month wait.
I suppose this is why people have the opportunity to make their own choices. I do not agree that choosing another carrier based on their device offerings as immature, but more of a mature evaluation of products and services offered by each carrier. I have been with Verizon for over 12 years now and making a choice to switch carriers is not a on the whim decision.
What do you mean we can't keep our grandfathered unlimited data? Where did you see that?
That was a policy change that went into effect last June. In order to keep unlimited data, you can't sign a new two-year contract, i.e., get a subsidized phone. You'll have to pay full retail price, get the phone from somewhere like ebay or swappa, upgrade another line on your account and then switch phones, or add a line to your account and switch phones.
It's not even about the 1 month extra wait time. I recommend you visit the T-Mobile website and check out their "Un-carrier" plans. We're talking about $50/month if you purchase the phone, Verizon doesn't have anything that can get anywhere near that. Even if you finance the phone for 2 years you are significantly cheaper than Verizon.
I'll add that it doesn't help my anxiousness at all that Verizon won't comment at all about their upcoming phones. I'm ready to pull the trigger on an HTC One or a Galaxy S4 as soon as I can, and Verizon's mum position isn't helping them retain this customer.I want to stay with Verizon, but I want it to feel like a wise decision.

I didn't say that. I said if you switch because you can't wait one month and that's the ONLY reason then that is immature.

I think the May 30 release is sad. A whole *month* past everyone else. And for what reason? That's what I'd like to know.. Sadly, Verizon has the best coverage in my area, and offers my company a good discount. Otherwise, I might indeed consider switching carriers. We have one phone that truly needs to be upgraded and since I don't want to get different phones for each of us, this extra month is troublesome to me.
For some the 1 month will be an issue, but for most it isn't. The Galaxy S III has been out for a year and still sells. Obviously millions of people don't have an issue purchasing that phone MANY months after it's release let alone 1 month.
I'm sure you're right, but for those of us who put off upgrading just to get this particular phone, that month is a big deal - especially when there's been no reason given for why it's delayed so long.
Verizon tweets that the S4 will be available in May. It does not specify when in May.
http://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-galaxy-s4-verizon-may-193770/
I am sure that the change in the release date allows VZW to unload more of the S3's that are in stock. And remember that it takes a long time to load all of the bloatware on the many phones they expect to sell.
Oh so at&t, t-mobile and Sprint don;t load bloatware? Also with that much storage I don't think that's really an issue.
AT&T has announced availability on April 27, with pre-orders shipped April 30. I think windfall's observation about the time need to load bloatware is pretty close to the mark.

i disagree. every carrier loads bloatware. nobody will believe this, but i have always felt that verizon just has a much more stringent testing process. they may also use the other carriers as a gauge to see just how many they want to order. in any case, they launched the s3 and the note2 later than the rest so i am not at all surprised about this, but bloatware will be on every version so i just don't believe it takes them a month longer to load bloatware than it takes at&t to load their bloatware.
I had signed up for Verizon Galaxy S 4 notification. Today an email came that said Verizon is now acctpting pre-orders. I'm traveling and can't take the time to look up a link. No word about when Verizon would attempt delivery of the pre-orders.
I got the same mail. When I clicked the link, it said orders would ship by May 30.
Why is there no 32 or 64GB option? Did the larger options really sell so badly? I really want a 64GB S4. :smileysad:
A 256GB USB pen drive is pretty cheap now, 16GB in my (fairly expensive) phone seems out of date already.
Do you really need that much stuff on your phone? I believe you can use a SD card in it can you not?
I wonder if this is true?
http://www.geek.com/android/16gb-samsung-galaxy-s4-comes-with-45-of-its-storage-used-1553443/
@garver.....probably. my "8gig" tbolt had 2.6 gigs of accessible memory. As long as there's a micro sd slot though, it doesn't really matter to the average user. If you load up your phone though, you'll want the 32 gig version foe sure.
The difference is the Thunderbolt was on older versions of Android that could install apps to the SD card. Jelly Bean and ICS do not allow that. Therefore, you are much more limited in your application install.
I would say this is primarily important for people who play games on their phone which may be up to 1 - 2 GB in size. You could only get 2 - 3 games on this phone before running out of space, even if you put a 64 GB SD card into the thing.
that's why i mentioned that if you load up your phone though, you will want the 32 gig version for sure. the 32 gig version should have at least 25+gigs of usable space. i know there's some games out there that are over 1 gig by themselves, but very few users will fill 25+gigs of storage for apps alone (assuming you store media and data on the sd card).
I find VZ's decision to limit our choice to the 16GB version laughable, and loading it with bloatware and tweaking the system until it is crap is just insulting. 'Planned Obsolescence' at it's best! No matter what they lock down, enterprising people always find a way.
I am ready to upgrade, but no 32GB is a deal breaker for me. 32GB should be the memory standard in 2013. Looks like I may be looking at AT&T, they have confirmed a 32GB version will be available.
agreed, and the "16" gig version has just under 9 gigs of formatted storage. i think that's fine for the average user, but i wouldn't buy it. i'm using 11 gigs of internal space right now, so i couldn't even put what i have now, on this version of the s4.
"Perhaps VZ is launching the 16GB now, only to offer some fantastically overblown sale at Xmas for the 32GB and 64GB?", she said with great sarcasm.
i could see it. like the razr....."come buy this awesome phone with an OK battery (that we'll sell in a couple of months with an amazing battery)"
I agree, why can't Verizon be at the forefront in releasing EVERY new phone? I thought they were the cellular leader? I guess they are slipping... I wanted to get the S4 and pre-ordered it, thinking I was going to be the first I knew to get one. Then my girlfriend went to get hers from AT&T and picked her S4 up that day!! From the store!! Verizon doesn't even have a demo to show in their stores. So disappointing. The coverage in my area is about the same for AT&T and Verizon. My company gives the same discount for both. If I would've know about this I definately would have switched over after 15 years, no doubt. It pays to shop around!
Another show stopper is no 32 or 64 GB model. I may also switch carriers since AT&T finally has coverage in the areas I travel.

so why don't you cancel the order (or return it as soon as you get it) and switch?
With yesterday's preorder deal on the S4, what do you think the price will be when it comes out? Was considering a preorder, but ordering online, I was looking at the $30 upgrade fee, as well as having to pay insurance up front for the year, and a few other fees that I can avoid in store. All together it was coming out to about $270. Think it'll be a better deal to preorder in store or just wait till it comes out and pick it up?
There is a $30 upgrade fee on all Verizon subsidized phones. You don't have to purchase insurance.
Meant to post, that Wirefly was doing a Verizon S4 deal for $180. Seems strange that the $250 things are all popping up. I would be surprised if it doesn't drop to $200, even, after its release.
I saw that and I'm pretty sure you will be correct on the price dropping. VZW doesn't want S4 to be a success because of the amount they subsidize on the phone. Haven't you started to notice the VZW reps trying to push Windows phone and Blackberry's more? VZW makes more money on those phones, so they have been told to push them harder. One of the reps actually told me that when I was in my local store. Bigger commissions if they sell them to the sheeple. There was an article online about it too.
A few things I'd like to point out and mention ..
1. People should never be genuinely upset over the fact that they can't upgrade to a phone, and some of you take "upset" to a whole new level. It's a gadget, not life or death. Seriously people?
2. No carrier has yet released a single version of the S4 other than the 16GB. This more than likely was not the fault of any carrier's, but maybe there was a reason that Samsung did it that way. AT&T and T-Mobile only offer it in 16GB as well. Not sure why people are bent out of shape because Verizon hasn't announced it yet.
3. People are wondering about pricing? It's already posted on the VZW website. $199 with 2 year contract - same thing it's always been for the Galaxy.
4. I've considered the whole T-Mobile no contract thing because it sounded nice at first. However, you pay $149 up front for the S4 and $20 (or any higher amount) per month after that for 2 years. For example, 12 months into your VZW contract would have an early termination fee of $230 if you wanted to switch carriers. On T-Mobile's new plan, you would have to pay off the remaining balance of the phone first - so 12 months in would have a remaining balance of $240 to switch or upgrade. Sure, it claims "no contract" - this is how they reel you in of course. In reality, you are still bound by some sort of "term." In this case, paying off the phone instead of the "early termination fee." Want to avoid it? Just pay the $630 for the phone up front - but if you're going to do that, then you might as well be on a no-contract plan with a carrier that offers better service anyways. I personally do not believe T-Mobile's new plan to be beneficial unless you already have a phone to use, or plan on sticking with them (and your phone) long after you pay it off.
at&t releasing 32gb model friday. ive already pre ordered 16gb from verizon really thought about switching but not sure about their service
You forgot to address that T-Mobile uses a standard that is global (GSM) and allows you to hop between carriers on a whim. Just insert a new sim and your off. This type of mobility allows you to shoot the bird to a carrier when they decide to short change you on service. In my experience, getting a phone outright on GSM is the way to go. T-Mob doesn't have the greatest coverage in rural areas, but it will do for those trying to get global 3G/4G capabilities in urban settings. What makes VZW phones absurd is that you can't even go to another carrier with the same phone. Their Apple products work on other carriers, but they never truly unlock the device on the CDMA network so that you can go to Sprint with it. To make a long story short, I'm going to AT&T when my contract is up. They have true global roaming capabilities AND I can buy any phone outright and go month to month OR prepaid if I like on their network. I can even take the phone to T-mob if I like. VZW and Sprint's closed CDMA monopoly is going to come to an end sooner, rather than later.
I ordered it as while and waiting for it and it someone told me that it might be later then may 30 when we receive it ...Everyone has there s4 but not Verizon they want to take forever which sucks .. Thought about switching to another carrier as while...I spoken to someone from Verizon wireless stated I might get it this week latest next week praying he was telling me the truth..Verizon why are your doing thi to us...
lol i doubt we get it that early. but my fingers are crossed, i been dealing with bad reception from my thunderbolt for two years cant take it much longer
a couple of cell phone retailers here in southern california are already offering the s4 to new customers and upgrades. search verizon galaxy s4 in los angeles craigslist.
I'm trying not to switch my service ... I'm hoping we do receive it by next week because my reception is bad is hell.
My sale person who I place my order who stated to it will be shipped earlier then 30th if I preordered .. Guess that was b.s.com
i talked to verizon last night, and the guy told me i will have my phone in hand on the 30th. so im guessing it will ship round the 28th? maybe sooner
You will not receive the phone before the 29th of may. I have allot of experience preording from VZW and I have only gotten one phone before the actual street date. I ended up getting that one phone the day before and they let me know that was a mistake....lol. Google I/O is this Wednesday and the rumor is the Motorola XFON is dropping WITHOUT availability on VZW. That could be a big blow because all of the good phones are passing VZW and going to AT&T. Rumor also has it that all of the Google Nexus phones going forward will not support VZW. I guess after the Samsung Nexus debacle, phone makers are putting their energy into a standard that is not supported by VZW, but the world (GSM). Lack of legitimate phone choices on VZW has me running for the hills when it comes to VZW and Sprint.
Not true i have gotta phones pre order early before from verizon. And i think they will start to ship some next week maybe mid-week next week.
Good news! It's being released on May 23: http://www.droid-life.com/2013/05/13/verizons-samsung-galaxy-s4-now-launching-may-23/
I haven't found any news, though, on when the pre-orders will ship.
I spoke with a Verzion rep via chat and she said that they are still scheduled to "ship by the 30th". She had no other information to share. Since Verizon is being their usual mum self perhaps we should all cancel or order and show up on launch day IF we still want the phone?
So they finally changed the ship date to 05/23. Whomever is in the PR/Marketing department is seriously sleeping at the wheel. It took more than 24 hrs to update their CSRs and website! Anyway, all is well looks like pre-orders are shipping BY 05/23. I know mine is shipping overnight so should have it just in time for the long weekend! Woo hoo! Now let's hope this 16 gb limit is overblown as an issue OR they announce the 32 shortly afterward so we can all trade. You hear that Verizon? Letting people know what you plan saves you heartache in the end. Just sayin. Of course they will most certainly wait until after we are all passed the return period, again lighting up the message boards with love. LOL.
