Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge factory reset on its own. Why?

I upgraded to the S6 edge+ in mid-September because I was going on vacation to Scotland, Ireland, and Wales and wanted to put the awesome camera to the test. The picture quality didn't disappoint. It is worth mentioning that I had my phone set to back up my files to Verizon's Cloud, Dropbox and Google Drive.  On November 21st, my phone did a factory reset all by itself. Smiley Sad It was resting on a chair and I came back to find the little green Android man on my screen. Initially, I wasn't too devastated because I knew that I had my phone set up to have all pictures and videos backed up.  You can imagine my shock and surprise while attempting to reinstall everything to discover that absolutely nothing in the two months that I had the phone had been backing up to Verizon's Cloud or Google Drive. When I had periodically checked Google Drive, I saw my photos and videos there. Where they have disappeared to is a mystery. I really regret upgrading to this phone, as it has no removable memory. The extra internal storage was also a major draw for this phone. At least if I had saved my pics and videos to the SD card, I would still have them. Conversations with Samsung, Google and Verizon reps over the past few weeks have not yielded any concrete answers about why this happened and how I could possibly retrieve my data. The general consensus is that the data is gone forever. Some have insinuated that I did not have it set to backup, which is not correct. After searching online, others who have experienced the random factory resets have blamed the recent firmware update. One Verizon rep told me that 'we have no idea what causes this. I've seen this happen to all types of phones. There's no rhyme or reason for it. But I've never seen it happen twice." That is not in the least bit comforting. I would feel much better if I knew that this issue is being actively investigated so as to prevent it from happening to others in the future. I cannot be the only one that this has happened to recently. Is there a proposed solution or possible identified cause by now?
