Samsung Galaxy s5 won't recognize mp3s

After spending a small fortune to pay for and download mp3 music to my samsung galaxy 5, after the December 2015 update my samsung galaxy 5 stopped recognizing the mp3. I am stuck with ringtones from Verizon which truly are bad. I have paid for additional music from the Play Store and download it to my phone (after the update) and it still won't recognize the formats. What the heck is going on? Please help!

That's truly concerning! Paying for something and it not working wouldn't work for me either. This needs to work. What happens when you try to play these mp3s? What app are you using to try and play them?
