Samsung S7 Apps keep closing

Why do several app's on my phone keep saying "(app) has stopped", then I can either close app or send feedback. I see many posts that say the same thing, all on 3/22/2021. Did verizon do an update that went awry? Any help would be appreciated. I have tried clearing cache on the affected apps, but that does not seem to work. VERY hesitant to do a factory reset and lose all my apps. Even the email app that came on the phone crashes, not to mention ALL my email apps now crash.

I called Verizon and after 45 minutes of help, which is was, at least most of the issue was resolved. My phone wouldn't respond to some of the things we tried but some worked. The first thing we were able to do was update Google. Next we went in to My Verizon and selected Device health. My available storage was low. Here's the Verizon page on device health.

Hope it helps.

I thought it was just me! It started earlier today and I can't read or respond to texts, no email access, web, etc. Everything I try to open just closes on me. No help through Verizon so far.

Hello, Mandy0421! We certainly understand wanting to resolve applications closing randomly and are here to help! It sounds like you may be experiencing a known issue. Please try the following steps:
1. Navigate to Play Store app
2. Search for Android System WebView
(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.webview)
3. Select the "Update" option
4. Repeat these steps for Google Chrome (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android.chrome)
After completing these steps, are you able to use an application normally?

Mgardner2758,
I know how important it is to be able to use your phone without apps crashing and getting stuck! To resolve this, please go to the Play Store, and search for Android System WebView. Update this app, and then search for Google Chrome, and update the Chrome browser as well. Once updated, restart your device, and this should clear up the issue.
Thank you,

I had the same problem yesterday evening with my Samsung S7 Edge. I found that it is a Google problem and that Android Apps need updating. This worked for me and now all is well. Here's the link for Google Support.

I tried this and it didn't work. The only two things that won't update are the "fixes" from Verizon from the bad update that happened yesterday sometime. I even uninstalled two apps and reinstalled them to try to fix the problem. I am beginning to really hate Verizon. Nothing but issues lately. Not just with the phone, but with the service as well.

HGaumond,
We want you to love us! We're disturbed to hear that you're still having this issue. Let's try placing your device in safe mode. Safe Mode puts your phone in a diagnostic state (returned to default settings) so you can determine if a third-party app is causing your applications to force close. Here are the steps on how to do this:
https://www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-203892/
If you don't experience this issue when your device is in safe mode, this is an indication that a third-party application is causing the issue. The next step is to uninstall applications one at a time until the issue stops.

Worked with two techs who were awesome this morning, but we could not resolve it. They are sending me another phone (had coverage). Tech support is going nuts fielding calls on this issue as quickly as possible. Yes, it still took an hour, but they did their best. Be sure to call on a phone different from the one you need help on.

On both of my phones this began 3/22/2021. I prepared for a factory reset on the phone. This problem caused my 128 gb microSD card to fail due to corrupt sectors that scandisk/chkdsk can't fix. $25 wasted. I checked on the android webview app to see if I could revert to the original version but it was already disabled in my settings. I don't think I did this because my wife's phone already had it disabled also. After updating the Amazon Shopping app this problem went away.

@frustradedS7 ,
We're sorry to hear that your phone is having trouble with apps closing. This is not related to any Verizon update, but from several Google apps on your phone. To fix the issue, please follow these steps:
1. Navigate to Play Store app
2. Search for Android System WebView
(http://spr.ly/6600HQ3UG)
3. Select the "Update" option
4. Repeat these steps for Google Chrome (http://spr.ly/6601HQ3UH)
Once both of those apps have been updated, please restart your phone. If you are unable to access those updates that Google has sent out to the Play Store, then please follow these steps:
1. Open your phone’s Settings app.
2. Tap Apps & notifications > Google Play Store > Storage & cache > Clear Data
3. Repeat the steps above to update WebView and Chrome
