Samsung galaxy S4 Mini issues

I had my phone for about a good month and now My phone is currently having charging issues. It won't stay charged up even while using the stock adapter. I'm not sure if I should get it replaced or what? It is also sending out double messages. Any suggestions?

Let's get to the bottom of these issues ljord8! For the charging concerns, do you see any damage to the charging port or the cable that attaches your phone to the charger? Do you have other cable to test?
For the double messages concerns, is your phone sending double messages to all contacts or only some contacts? What messaging application are you using?

I have had this Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini for less than one month.   After reading all these posts, should I just bring it in and get something else.  I don't have time to play service Tech for Verizon.  There is NO sign of any damage or dirt.  If I unplug and replug the USB charger cable from Verizon to the 120V plug and / or the S4 Mini it charges for a few seconds to a few minutes and then stops... It is at around 40 to 45% charge and keeps dropping from "charging" to "not Charging"

We want you to be able to keep a charge Lmore. When did this begin? Anything change on the device such as apps, an update or settings? Are you using the original charger? Have you tested more than one outlet? Tried a battery pull?

I noticed that the charging circuit dropped to "no charging" very soon after I would plug it into either the wall or a USB port.   I also noticed that an "eye symbol" would appear at the top of the screen just before the charging circuit would stop no matter the % charge on the battery.  So I went to the Smart Screen / Smart Stay and turned it off.  Since then my charging has been working.  I still don't understand why I get the "charging will be slow you should get a Samsung charger" message since I've using the charger sent to me by Verizon plugged into the AC wall socket.  Now it is taking hours to charge 1 or 2 % ...

Yesterday it started .. as I said above turning off Smart Stay stopped it from dropping the charging process.   But it now takes hours to get 1 or 2 % charge.   I am using the charge sent with the phone from Verizon.   BUT the phone says "it will be charging slowly because I don't have the original charger" .. If that is true then Verizon sent the wrong charging cable and wall plug.  I've tested multiple outlets and have removed the battery and replaced it...nothing is fixing the slow charging.

Now it's just stuck at 39% and the lightning bolt acts like it's charging... and it says it's charging ... and it also says I should use the original charger to prevent slow charging ... I AM using the original charger that came from VERIZON.

After nearly 12 hours the battery is now at 100% charge.  But I had to restart (by unplugging and replugging the connector) the charging process twice to get it to charge from 89% to 100%.

Thanks for all the details Lmore. I'm pleased to hear it is at 100% now. Did you charge it with the power off? Does it appear to be performing normally now?

This problem remains ...

1) when I plug in the charger AC USB sent by Verizon for this phone it gives the error message that "to charge faster, use the original charger"

2) It is taking over 12 hours to re-charge the battery when the VERIZON charger is plugged into an 120V AC socket.

Thanks for the additional details Lmore. I'm sorry it appears we haven't been able to confirm if this also happens when attempting to charge the phone with the power off? Have you tested the charger itself with another device?

The slow charging happens with the S4 mini turned in both cases ... with it on and with it off.

It just took about 2 hours to add 3% of the battery charge.

Lmore,

Oh goodness, that's a long time to just add 3%. Does your phone have any physical or water damage? Are you using a wall charger and not a USB charger? Is the charging port loose?

1) I am using the charging connector and cable Verizon sent to us to charge the phone ... it is a 120V wall plug with the USB cable that plugs into that and then it has a small connector that plugs into the phone.

2) No matter if it's on or off it always gives the error message when I plug it in to charge ... charging will be slow you should use the original charger... IF that error message is true THEN Verizon did not send us an original charger.

3) The phone is brand new.. it has no physical or water damage.

4) The charger sent from Verizon is a 120V wall plug with a USB cable that connects that plug to the phone.

5) Others claim that they can re-charge the S4 Mini Battery in 2 hours .. I have NEVER had that experience.

Thanks you for working so hard with us, Lmore. When did you purchase your S4 mini? Is the charger the Samsung branded charger that came in the box with this phone or did you purchase a separate spare charger from Verizon Wireless? Where was the charger purchased?

It was purchased online from Verizon about 2 weeks ago...   The charger came with the phone it was not purchased separately.

It is black and a black cable.

Thanks for the details Lmore! This is very strange! Do you see any damage to the charging port on the phone or any end of the data cable that came with your charger? A hands on evaluation may be necessary, please stop by a Verizon Wireless store at your convenience with both the phone, the charger and the cable. Enter your ZIP code at this link http://bit.ly/3SdsA for a store near you.

Conclusion ...

Verizon sent a bad charging cable with my new Galaxy S4 Mini.  It was replaced at the repair center and now it is charging from around 15% to 100% in less than 2 hours.
