Since the recent Nougat update, I cannot send or receive MMS messages. My APN configuration has no settings specified for MMS messaging and I cannot edit or add to the APN settings to correct this. This happens whether I am on both wifi and mobile or on just mobile alone.

wvsamsung6, having the ability to send and receive your multimedia messages is a must. I appreciate all the information you have provided as it does help us in figuring out what could be causing this issue. Let's continue so that we may get this resolved. I see you are using a 3rd party application for texting called Textra. Unfortunately we cannot troubleshoot it as it is not a Verizon Wireless product. You definitely have the option to reach out to the developer of that application for assistance. What do you experience when you attempt to use the native application for multimedia messages? Lastly, I know how scary it can be to perform a master reset as we never want to lose any of our precious information but there are many applications that offer ways to back up your information such as our Verizon Wireless Cloud. Please click link provided to get more information for this awesome back up tool and reference number 6. http://vz.to/1OgSM3j

The APN is pulled from the SIM card. Have you tried to reseat the SIM card?

We can’t have you missing out on the MMS messages, especially in this day and age. What error do you receive when trying to send/receive the messages? What messaging app are you using?

Hello all! I have not tried to reseat the SIM card, but will look at that.
I get a message stating that says "Can't get MMS: No mobile data" Luckily, I'm in IT so I know most of the places to look at the settings on the phone to check possible issues. When I checked the APN settings, for both MMS settings (Multimedia message proxy and Multimedia port) they both say "not set".
I use Textra for messaging. Textra used to have a setting where I could switch between System and Legacy settings for MMS if there were issues sending messages. That setting is no longer available in Textra.

One further note on this. Last night, I got periodic messages, meaning, all of a sudden, the 40 or so messages I missed would come in. I could send also. I sent a few messages today, but no photos or videos. The message appears, I would guess 5 times throughout the day. One minute things are working and then....nothing. I get the message that I have no mobile data and can no longer send or receive. Calls are not a problem, nor is accessing anything else on the phone such as apps.
This is my work phone so it is full of 20 years of information so a factory reset is not in the cards for me.

I am about to leave for 5 week travel stint for work, so the risk of losing any contacts or upsetting my companys software on my phone (VPN and security) is not an option right now. It's critical that I'm able to communicate so I don't want to screw things up further with a reset. When I did the switch from iPhone to Samsung, I backed up everything to the Verizon Cloud and lost information that, for whatever reason, were things that were not uploadable to the cloud. (that was 2 years ago now so I don't remember what I lost at the time, but it was media-related things like pictures, videos and music) Luckily, I still had my Apple account, where I could retrieve the missing data and pull that onto my phone separately from there. It was a long, fragmented process that I really do not want to go through again. I have not checked the stock messaging app because I have no intention of ever using it. Even if it does work, it is not suitable for my messaging needs or wants which is why I used a 3rd party app. Can you confirm that the MMS settings I've mentioned should read "Not Set"? My APN settings do not match what is on the Verizon website as the current APN settings. I would think that I need that to match, not only for messaging, but for other things to be working correctly on my phone.

I absolutely understand your hesitation to use a different app or complete a reset, wvsamsung6. I don’t want to leave you feeling stranded without a working phone right before your trip and I apologize for the troubles you ran into the last time you switched phones. The APN should normally show VZWINTERNET for all our devices. The suggestion earlier to start with reseating your SIM https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-153976/ would be the right place to start and it will not result in any reset your valuable information. You can also navigate to Settings > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > Menu (three dots in upper right corner) > Reset to Default. I know you have found the Textra app to be the most convenient for your messaging needs but I encourage you to try out the stock messaging app, even if only for a few minutes, to ensure we complete thorough testing and have a working phone in your hands. Please keep me posted on how the messaging is working after these steps.

I've been having the same issue. As long as I use built in messaging app, I can send/receive MMS messages. But any other 'third party' messaging app, like my go-to for years now Textra, cannot send receive MMS. This only started recently and Textra support seems to believe that its an issue with APN MMS configuration of the phone (LG V20), which, I cannot access on my phone. All I can do is rename the APN. So I am out of luck stuck with a paid for app, a developer who cannot help, and a provider that will not support me because I'm using a third party messaging app. I also tried others, Android Messenger for example, and same thing. Interesting thing to note is that I did a reset of my phone and Textra worked perfectly for a week, then out-of-the-blue, I'm right back to where I was before resetting. My understanding is APN comes from the SIM? If that's true, is it worth trying a new SIM?

I haven now uninstalled Textra and tried using the stock messaging app for a week now. Now, I do not receive the "No mobile data" message, I simply am missing message because people will tell me they've sent me a pic and I didn't receive it OR an error message, so this is worse.
As I sit here this morning, I have 3 messages from someone spinning in my phone, eating up my battery saying "downloading". I have no idea what they are and this person is part of a group message. She does not send me individual messages, so her message isn't even become part of the group. I still have yet to receive an answer from Verizon on why my APN settings have no MMS settings.
MMSC - Not set
Multimedia message Proxy - Not set
Multimedia message port - Not set
I am not going to be able to receive MMS messages until this APN is fixed. This is getting very frustrating and I see from the web I'm not the only one with the issue. This is going on over a month now and is only getting worse.

I can understand your frustration and I really appreciate you trying out the native application, wvsamsung6. It’s disappointing to see the issue is still occurring but it’s really helpful to know the results. I wish I had an answer to why this has happened but I want to be sure we find a solution. Since you’ve already taken so many great steps to get the messages working, I’d like to ask you to use the Software Repair steps in the Software Upgrade Assistant tool found at https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/samsung-update-upgrade-assistant/ to attempt to reload the APN settings since it all started with an update. Please select Allow when prompted for permission to back up your phone to make sure your information from your device is kept secure during the process. Thank you for all of your patience working with us to get all your messages downloading properly.

Hi, I'm having similar problems so hopefully this might help you guys to narrow it down.
I have multiple Galaxy S7's on my account that started experiencing this problem after the Android 7.0 (nougat) update. Everything will work fine most of the day and then suddenly MMS (group chat, pictures and videos) will stop sending or receiving. Every messaging app (I've tried many while trying to fix the problem) will give me a variation of the error message "Mobile data is not available." The outage will last about 20 minutes and during this time mobile data will actually work fine for everything else such as youtube or web browsing. Regular SMS and voice will continue to work as well.
During my dealings with tech support I've tried factory resetting, changing messaging apps, clearing app data and replacing the SIM card. I recently also upgraded to a new Galaxy S8 (also running Nougat) which is now experiencing the same exact problems.
A few days ago this happened during a group chat with a friend of mine who was in North Carolina and using a Verizon Galaxy Note 5. We were both unable participate in the group chat for about 20 minutes. When we spoke on the phone she mentioned that she has been having the problem since the Note 5 upgraded to Nougat as well.
It seems like the common denominator for these phones is the nougat update.

I tried to correct my last post but I guess I waited too long. I had mentioned that my friend was using a Note 5 but it's actually the Galaxy S7 Edge. Thanks!

Holy moly, that definitely sounds frustrating. I know that I send multiple group messages in a given day, so we want to do everything we can to get to the bottom of this in no time. I sent you a message to your community inbox. Please reply there so we can provide more personalized support.

I am having the exact same issue and all the proposed solutions do not work.
I'm on a Samsung S8.
What is the most frustrating part is we cannot edit our APN while on VZW. It is locked out. It is pretty clear that MMS is not set and is unable to retrieve group texts or images with this issue.
On the S3 we could edit our APN to fix this issue and now it is locked out. That is silly.
Unlock and allow us the ability to at least *add* new APNs. If you want to keep a default verizon one that cannot be altered, that makes sense. But preventing us from adding new APNs to fix this issue on our own is silly.

I am also having the same issues as described in this thread. Samsung Galaxy S7, Nougat update, using Textra as my texting app, but found that the issue does not go away when using other apps.
This is very frustrating. I agree with @RLO327 that it feels like our hands our tied since we cannot troubleshoot any further by trying to add a new APN.

So this afternoon after leaving home I went to use Google Assistant for navigation, which said it couldn't connect. Nor would maps or browsing. Turned data off/on twice, then things finaly connected. Data has been a little screwy since Nougat.

bmangia1, we know how important it is to stay connected with data, especially in this day and age. Let's get to the bottom of this. What's the make/model of your phone? Zip code? Was this a one time occurrence or do you notice that you're having trouble connecting on a regular basis?

Noted in earlier posts I'm using an LG V20 and now this morning again I wake up to a message from Textra "Can't get MMS: no mobile data Turn on mobile data... I cannot edit APN settings since they're locked out. This is getting pretty ridiculous. Yes this is a regular occurrence now.
