I sent a text message to someone and when I went back into my messaging folder I noticed an x above the time, can anyone tell me what that mean??

Superb question. And I know firsthand our phones can generate a lot of different symbols, so I'm happy to shed some light here.
Based on your description of things, the "x" was there because the message failed sending. You can try to resend the message by simply clicking it and sending.
