How can my Samsung Galaxy 5 receive text messages sent from iPhones? Messages from my friends with iPhones are only received on my iPad (an Apple product).

mmacd9, we need to get you back connected with your iPhone friends. Did you previously have an iPhone before activating that Samsung Galaxy S5 device? If so, you will need to send a text message to 48369 to unenroll your mobile number. Keep us posted.

make sure the i-phone account has been removed, not just the i-phone turned off.

If you once had an Apple I'd your number will be associated with that Apple I'd and I phones auto assume it's still iPhone and sends I message so you won't receive you have to text stop to a weird number your Verizon associate should be able to give you that number or you may have to call customer service to get it,it's stupid,I dont remember number our I would give to you sorry, went through same thing.

Thank you! For anyone else who has this issue, call Apple Support at 1-800-692-7753 and ask them to close your Apple account. It then takes up to 24 to 48 hours for the change to take effect. Then, if you still cannot receive texts from friends with iPhones, you will need to ask them to delete your phone number in their iPhone, then add it back, so that it no longer seeks the iPhone iMessaging network, or whatever it is. Apparently, BEFORE I traded in my iPhone for a Samsung Galaxy phone, I was supposed to shut off iMessaging under SETTINGS > iMESSAGES. f course, most sales people at phone stores don’t know this – and I certainly did not -- so it gets overlooked. It is an insidious design feature by Apple to make it difficult to drop their products. Good luck!

Dear LasinaH_VZW,
Yes, I previously owned an iPhone and traded it in for a Samsung Galaxy 5S at a Verizon store.
I have sent the text as you have advised. Earlier today I also called Apple Support and asked them to shut down my Apple account to allow iPhone friends to send texts to my new Samsung Galaxy 5S.
Apple Support said that it may take 24-48 hours to take effect. Also, I may have to contact my iPhone friends and tell them to delete my phone number, then add it back, in order to ensure that I can receive their messages.
This is a real nuisance on the part of Apple.

Thanks mmacd9. We appreciate your patience while this is removed on Apple's end.
