Texting issues and Upgrade assistant failures

Hi

I purchased a Galaxy S5 from Radio Shack while in the states due to your phones being factory unlocked.

I successfully use the device every day in Canada with Telus Mobility.

Problem:  My texts randomly stop working. I dont mean they get rejected by the network, but sometimes randomly after restarting the device - or in the middle of the day all of a sudden I get a Text Message failed popup.  The texts dont even leave the phone, the popup occurs instantly after pressing Send.

I've done the repair, twice as nothing else has solved the issue.

To fix this I'd love to be able to upgrade to the latest Android version, but your lovely software upgrade assistant (why would you replace KIES with your own program by the way?) keeps failing to install the update!!!

I need a fix and fast, this has been a waste of money otherwise. I am very upset.

Try replacing your original SIM  with a local Telus Mobility SIM card. Canada is in the Northern American Network and this should allow your upgrade.

Therein lies the problem.

I am not a Verizon subscriber, I purchased the phone because it was unlocked.

I AM using a Telus Sim card. I even downloaded KIES and same thing happens, says error in the download file and aborts. No other option than to flash the rom myself.

Thank you for reaching out to us, jon_g86. That definitely would be very annoying to have issues with your text services, especially if they just hang and do not even send out. Do you notice if the same issues occur when using a different SMS service such as Google Hangouts?

When you attempt to update are you using the Software Upgrade Assistant? I you try using the latest version of Kies, does your computer recognize your phone?

Hey there

Yes same issue happens in hangouts. Actually happened again this morning. I know the issue isn't with telus as when I change the Sim card to my other phone an older Galaxy Note 2 it all works just fine. It's definately a device issue. Software or hardware I cannot ascertain. I would assume software as it starts working again if I do a factory reset... But then if I power cycle the device I'm back to square one.

It  can go weeks on end before happening again... And then it'll last from a couple hours to a couple days. Hence why I retain my old device (thank God I have it)

I was recently in a Verizon store in Maine when I was visiting family buy he said there was nothing he could do and perhaps it's where this device has a CDMA antenna instead of a GSM antenna. Like I said either way it's been incredibly frustrating for me to have to keep two devices. Samsung won't replace the phone with a GSM version  or even another Verizon  device. And as I am not a Verizon subscriber and live in Canada I would assume Verizon won't either despite having the original radio shack (who also brushed me off saying it's not their problem) receipt from Hawaii and proof of purchase from the box as I had to get rid of the box...

I'm using the service that self installs from the phone itself. Also... In kies it recognized the phone properly and everything. I get the update failed message on both programs. I've found an android 4.4.4 rom online which I'm considering just flashing the device. But idk.

I'm. At a complete loss and out 799.99
