Big Red has modified Froyo's native WiFi hotspot capability to use their pay-as-you-go service, starting at $20.
What about the USB Tethering that Froyo brings? Does that use the already-paid-for data plan or does using it also result in more cha-ching for Verizon?

Thanks. That was what I was trying to understand. So I assume there's a "tethering add-on" that one needs to add to the Verizon package to enable tethering.

I can see charging for a multiple pc wi-fi hot spot, makes sense. However to me charging for USB wired tether when you already pay for an unlimited data plan is double dipping. Your laptop is not capable of using any more data then what can pass thru your phone via 3G which is not impressive to begin with, on average about 400 kbps. So you stream data on your phone or your laptop at the same speed that your phone is capable of, not any faster.
I already been told by some people here that USB tethering is completely, totally different than streaming with your phone. I will not get into an argument is this area, we disagree and thats the end of it.

Right, but regardless of the philisophical difference, still wondering if 1) does Froyo enable USB tethering to a PC and 2) does Verizon either allow it as part of the TOS or charge for it as a separate use? Trying to figure out what's techncially possible and what's permissible under Verizon's terms.

This thread is very helpful. I read it and I tried to use the native Froyo tethering and I get a message that says "Unable to tether while MTP in use". Can you tell me what MTP is and how I make it so it is not in use?

That data included in the "unlimited" plan is and always has been limited to the phone. Any tethering, whether usb or mobile hotspot, requires the add-on.
