USB connection not recognized

When connecting my phone to the computer via the USB cord provided, initially the phone is recognized. Then almost immediately I get the following message:

"The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."

Can you help?

For what it's worth, until the Windows 10 compatibility issue is resolved, I thought of a work-around. I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier. All I want to do is copy photos from phone to computer.

I simply used the SD card from the phone and plugged it directly into my computer. Problem solved.

That said, I still look forward to Microsoft's solution.

What OS are you running on your computer?

Are you using the original cable that was supplied with the phone?

try another usb port or another computer.

I tried another port, which I know works. - nothing

Tried another device (external hard drive) in the "offending port" - drive works

Don't have another computer.

You could be experiencing some issues because of Windows 10.

I have the S5, but am waiting to upgrade to Windows 10 until some of the bugs are worked out. I would contact microsoft. Did you have this problem before windows 10?

It must be because of Windows 10, since I had no problems at all before "upgrading."

Hopefully this conflict will be resolved . . . eventually.
