USB device not recognized

I have a new Fascinate. It was working fine; I had used Companion link to sync contacts with outlook, and had mounted the USB device. Also had it tethering using {edit for TOS violation}

. Used it earlier today - fine. Now every time I try to connect it via USB (to the same XP computer that worked a few hours ago), I get "USB device Not Recognized". The phone is charging via the USB and the PC recognized a new device was connecting, but it no longer finds a driver for it. Of course sync and other apps that require it also no longer work. I rebooted both phone and pc; no change. I had loaded some new apps since it last worked, but had not changed any phone settings manually. I still show installed on the PC the Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones version 1.3.850.0 My Phone has USB Settings: Device seen as mass storage when connected to PC. Any ideas?

Same problem, except mine has never worked. Support on Samsung site is nearly nonexistent. I did find something called PC Studio 3 and allegations that installing it on my PC would fix the problem, but it didn't fix the problem.

Hello maxwellb. I have read your post and understand the issue you are experience you with USB cable not being found. You can try going through the debugging process on your device. Here are the steps:

From a home screen, select Applications.

Select Settings.

Select Applications.

Select Development.

Select USB debugging to enable / disable.

Enabled when a green check mark is present.

If prompted, select OK.

From a home screen, select Applications.
Select Settings.
Select Applications.
Select Development.
Select USB debugging to enable / disable. Enabled when a green check mark is present.
If prompted, select OK.

If this does not work you can try uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling the drivers.

Can someone tell me where I can go to download the drivers for the Fascinate? I just got mine today, have tried the useless Samsung website, and can't find the driver anywhere.

Had the same problem I went into setting menu and went to the USB settings and switched from hard drive to media card and it works great

well Windows 7 (64-bit) and the Samsung Fascinate are a no-go. Windows doesn't even see a device is plugged in (even though its charging off the usb) Samsung's support page for that phone is basically non-existent and you can't find any help on verizon's site either. It sucks not being able to use USB to transfer your contacts, move music etc directly via the phone. Instead you have to pull out the MicroSD and use a USB adapter.

Guys,

This isnt all that difficult. As a matter of fact, if my girlfriend has to explain to an i/t manager on how to do it - its NOT difficult at all i can tell you that.

Simply put, once you connect your USB data cable to the phone, you should notice the USB symbol on the upper left hand corner of what is known as the MSG bar. Whether you guys know it or not, you can place your finger ON that message bar and drag it down the length of the screen to see what -if any - messages you have.

You should now see a message saying USB connected. Single press that message and you shoud get a pop-up stating to "mount" or "don't mount" on your screen. Your going to choose MOUNT.

Once you do that, go to your windows explorer and you will see a removable media drive and that will be your phone.

Side note: the verizon version, SCH-I500, of the phone is not listed at Samsung support site.

Found the same problem with Vista, could not find a driver, samsung site jumps from sch 1400 to sch 1600

Ok, call me dopey, VJ, but I followed your directions and still do not see the removeable media drive! My computer imediately recognizes everything else that I plug in, but not the phone!

I had an issue where one PC would see the Fascinate but the other (Windows XP) would not. When I looked in the Control Panel | System | Hardware | Device Manager screen on the PC it showed the Fascinate with a yellow exclamation point next to it. I fixed it by right clicking on it and selecting uninstall and then ran the Add Hardware wizard in Control Panel and it then connected and the SD card was able to be browsed via Windows Explorer.

I am a little embarrassed to post how I was able to solve this issue, but maybe it will help someone out there. Other than making sure you install the latest driver from the Samsung website my biggest problem "appeared" to be using the power splitter instead of the true USB cable. Let me explain

I bought some accessory where on one end of the usb cable you can plug in an accessory cord which splits power to charge both the phone and a spare battery at the same time. Since the ends of these cords fit into the USB slot on the phone I assumed (apparently poorly) they would work. That appears not to be the case. I think they are for POWER only and in order to use the USB cable/communication you have to remove that accessory cord. Once I removed that and plugged in the supplied USB cable that came with the phone...no problems.

Before on Windows 7 it would see the device but would say "USB Driver Not Recognized"

I have exactly the same problem. Factory reset did not resolve the problem. Did the reset yesterday, and since it did not fix the problem Verizon is going to send me a like new phone. I spent hours talking with Verizon and some with Samsung before I did the reset. Wish I would've seen these posts first. It was amazing because Verizon kept telling me they were not aware of this problem, but then I found this forum. I about popped a cork.

Anyway, I have not found a resolution. It will be interesting to see if a new phone works or not. Guess I will have to go out and buy a card reader.

After trying everything here I had given up - then - discovered that the type of USB cable mattered! Using the cable from the original purchase worked.

So to recap from all the wonderful previous posts-this is what finally worked for me: 1) Use the USB cable from the original purchase; 2) Check In 'Settings - USB settings - Mass storage - is selected; 3) Make sure the SD card is mounted 4) On the pull down menu (where you see current notifications) "mount" the device.

You have got to be kidding? This is the "technical support" recommendation? I get so sick of the "you need to reinstall" default answer from every lazy, unmotivated or unskilled so-called technician out there. What is the root cause of this issue? Obviously we don't all need to reinstall. Ergo, there is a true issue that needs to be fixed with either hardware or software (most likely the latter). This is USB. It's not some newer protocol like Infiniband that is still not very widely adopted. That said, it is very insulting to tell users that they need to reinstall.

Download phone USB drivers from Samsung:

Install drivers by running the .msi file your download.

Connect phone via a standard micro-USB cable to a USB port.

Select "connect using USB" on the phone (may pop up, may need to be selected from the device status window).
