Ok, I already heard that there are a bunch of people that had this happen to them last night or even the day before. My Galaxy 5S was updating last night and when I got up this morning, it WOULD NOT let me open it. I could not do anything. I used my gmail account, pin, and pattern. Mind you I had my phone set to just open at a swipe. I ended up going to the Verizon Wireless store and they were completely stumped. They said they have never seen that happen. I was told my best bet was to go to Best Buy and see a Samsung specialist there. OK, went to Best Buy, and go to the Samsung area. What does he tell me. The only thing I can do is have it Factory Reset. Which means I lose almost all of the info on my phone. He also told me "if" I had a Samsung account. I told him I never created one since I have the gmail and my own account. He goes and tells me that IF I had a Samsung account that might let me log into my account without having to go through factory reset. Now what really [removal required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service] me off is two things. ONE, if having a Samsung account is needed, WHY not make sure you let those that are buying the phone know that for emergency purposes. And TWO, why the [removed] was an update added that had a bug that caused a bunch of Galaxy phone to lock up and not open. This is total [removed]. I love my phone, don't get me wrong, but it [removed] me off that every time something new is added to my phone another issue pops up and [removed] up my phone. It took me most of the day to put back almost everything on my phone AGAIN. And I WAS thinking about getting the Galaxy S7. I might hold off much longer.
