It's not actually Froyo. Mine finished about 10 minutes ago. It's that DL09 update, which does bring some improvements. Still waiting for my Froyo!

There's a symbol showing in my notification bar now and I have no idea what it is. Anyone noticing something different in the notification bar? Kinda looks like a crosshair and signal strength radiating from the right side of it.

Yea, mine started at 6:15, and finished pretty quickly, it is DL09 update. I am now at 2.1-Update1 still, but the Baseband version is S:i500.04V.DL09 . There were a few fixes in the update, but the most important is the GPS fix like someone mentioned above.

Does anyone no how to turn off the new GPS like symbol...I assume some kind of location service is on, but can't seem to find out how to turn it off, as I can only assume this is consuming battery life...thanks!!

I'm pretty sure it wont eat that much battery life, that symbol is common amongst other phones.

To what I understand, this GPS icon on the top bar is a standard Verizon E911 services indicator which can't be turned off. It might be annoying to see it but I don't believe that it will "eat" battery any more than it did until now as those services were active even with a previous DI updates.
But I will keep an eye on the battery performances for the next few days to be absolutely sure.

haha they say that E911 "can't be turned off on any cellular phone" ( look at the location tab in settings). but I was able to change it on my last phone it was a LG Dare.

the symbol with the crosshairs is the Google location services. When you see the parens to the right (showing signal), the service is on, and when you don't see these signal lines, it is off. Found out by trial and error--the Verizon rep I was just speaking with didn't know. This appears after this update which I got this morning.

My battery is still full even with some internet use and all location services turned on. I believe the GPS service is active when an application calls for it like Bing. GPS is fast on my phone now. If I want flash in my browser now then will get Opera or Skyfire.
Going to play when I get home and compare to the published list of changes on the Samsung site. Have fun.

I'm very happy now with this Maintenance Release. All along I just wanted a phone that works. Yes FROYO will be nice once it's released but isn't the most important thing that the phone works properly. I checked my GPS right away and it was spot on in seconds.
All I have to say is thank you, IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!
