Which is what I am told means we are getting froyo OTA like really soon.

If you want it sooner, you can download it directly from Samsung's open source site.
yeah how do you install it?
love the double http action going there
If they are going to release they are going to release it... I have one thing to add if the person I think may read this thread...
I thought all the XDA people were saying the Fascinate wasn't going to get an update... Also your "internal" sources said the same thing... So far those same people are 0-4 and if this proves true... they will be 0-5.
Don't hold your breath just enjoy the phone the way it came out of the box because they will not release Froyo for the Fascinate because the phone itself has issues preventing it from working right
The ball's in Verizon's court now...Samsung has just proven they are finished with the code and it works on the fascinate. Any delays now are clearly Verizon's.
i certainly hope this means it's on the way, but given the entire history of the Galaxy S line and Samsung, I'm not hopeful. I found out I qualify to get into a Thunderbolt for only 150 bucks, and if the Froyo update doesn't come by then, that's precisely what I intend to do. At this point, I don't know who is more to blame for the holdup--Verizon, Microsoft or Samsung--and I no longer care. AFAIC, they have a week to deliver Froyo, and if it doesn't happen, I'm done with Samsung for the forseeable future.
That being said, I will have gained a free 16GB Galaxy Music Player, as that's about the only use for a decommissioned Fascinate...

ha, I didn't even want to see that phone after I bought the Thunderbolt. Sold my Fascinate on Craigslist for $250 two days after posting and probably could've gotten more but was tired of looking at it.

Great question. How do we install it. I'm downloading it now.

VZW will have to test it now to make sure all the bloat works, Bing,Navigator ,etc. And for all those looking to download and install the "source code" don't do that, it is not the OS and won't work. Source Code is for the developers.
Thanks. They'll also have to figure out how to get it to the phones. Either OTA, or Mini-Keis... A friend of mine has the Vibrant and T-Mobile chose the Mini-Keis route.
Personally, I think the Mini-Keis route is the smarter. That way they are not tying up valuable bandwidth doing OTA. My two cents.
Mini-Kies DOES NOT work with the Fascinate. All Samsung did was upload the part of their source code that they're legally responsible for in their development license. Usually source code isn't released until after a Carrier has rolled an update out but Samsung has already done it a couple times with other Galaxy S devices. I'd expect the update from Verizon to start rolling out within the next couple weeks and probably take a week to complete. It'll be OTA but they may also do like sprint and provide an update.zip that can be flashed via recovery.
me too. strawberry shortcake flavored please...
We WILL be receiving the 2.2 Update OTA - I got the confirmation from Verizon last Friday, April 15th. As to when, they stated since releasing the update for everyone at the same time would overload the network so, the push for each phone will be done on a random basis. They did recommend checking for updates to your phone on a periodic basis.
techlife2,
Perhaps you wouldn't mind sharing the source of your "inside information", how come you are apparently the only Verizon customer who got this information?

Thank you for contacting our Verizon Wireless website. We understand your frustration with not having a set date on when the firmware update for Android Operating System (OS) 2.2 will be available for the Samsung Fascinate. We are happy to assist you with checking for updates for the Samsung Fascinate. We appreciate your interest in our products and services. Based on the information provided, you are aware that Verizon Wireless has received the latest firmware update from Samsung. The firmware update is pushed to Samsung Fascinate users to ensure the network is not overloaded with downloading the update. Currently we do not have a specific date of when the push will be received by your device as it is random. If you would like to manually check the Samsung Fascinate for the latest update, please use the link below for instructions:
OK, nothing in that statement is any different from the other bull Verizon has been spouting for the last 8 months, except instead of saying "soon" they changed it to "we do not know the date"
Blame Friggin Verizon...
Samsung has done its job its Verizon whos dragging all the crap :]
I'm thinking getting Froyo is a given now. The source code release and subsequent statements seem to be following Samsung/Carrier SOP for all the previous Froyo releases. I think it is just a matter of when.
yeah, Samsung wouldn't release source code if there wasn't going to be an update so it's definitely coming, just a matter of when. I'd give Verizon until the end of the month to start rolling it out before going off the deep-end though.
samsung most likely got tired of being blamed for not producing it, so they just showed everyone they have. and placed the ball in verizons hands
