What do I need to do to make my Galaxy S4 phone service work in the Philippines?

Last time I traveled there, I read instructions on this site that said I just need to have Verizon "enable" the international phone service, and when I'm there, I just pick a carrier when I turn on my phone.

I was able to send SMS messages from my phone when I was waiting for my connecting flight in Seoul, South Korea, but when I got to the Manila, Philippines, I could not connect to any phone service there to either call or send SMS messages.

Do I need to purchase a different sim card to make this work?  Or are Verizon phones just incompatible with the phone networks there?

Thanks!

Hello DloHouston!  I can help you when it comes to using your phone in the Philippines! That sounds like a wonderful time! 4G devices are automatically unlocked for international use, and we have global plans for you to choose from. You can view them here: vz.to/1MWz61H You do have the option of using the SIM card of the carrier in the Philippines, when it comes to using data. Each country has different rates when it comes to voice and messaging.  I have also sent you a Direct Message in the forums, so we can provide you with all of the information you need.   Thanks,   ChristinaB_VZW Follow us on Twitter @VZWSupport  If my response answered your question please click the "Correct Answer" button under my response.
