Ok so I had the S4 and I used maybe .32 (yes .32) data a month. Now that I switched last week to the S5 I am already at .50. Why is there such a data increase?
The only things I got listed on are:
wifi- my house has wifi
sound- got to hear
screen rotation- set default
mobile data- set default
sync- set default
I admit I might be missing something. But I have not used the S5 any more then I did the s4.
Ideas??

Great question, E5Destroyer! Congratulations on your new phone. When you got it and set it all up were you using the data network?

Could it be possible the sleep policy of the wifi radio kicked in? While the screen is off, the wifi will shut down allwing the cellular data to become active for any background syncing and application updates. You can also change the settings in the Play Store to only update over wifi.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

E5Destroyer,
We'll get to the bottom of this together. I absolutely recommend trying what Ann154 and Bearone21 touched upon. You can use this webpage to manage a good majority of your data: http://vz.to/1khMmTJ and keep it where you want it to be. The "Restrict Data Usage by App" section is especially helpful.

Thanks,
SO this is what I have done:
google play - was set to wifi only so good there.
wifi radio - dont use it so no idea.
link provided by support above:
so I checked the data usage stuff.
there is a check in all 3 boxes at top.
when I check data by app i see:
.07 gb on Google play as the leader
Removed Apps and users .01 GB
the rest are things like Facebook, chrome and maps with less.
In the drop down menu in Data storage there is a check in the AUTO SYNC DATA box. No check sin anything else.
I have the active apps Widget on my home page so I Always make sure I close stuff down when not in use.

Thanks for trying all those steps, E5Destroyer. Please also double check your email and make sure there's no message stuck in your outgoing folder that's continuously trying to send. You can also go to Settings>WiFI> Menu>Advanced> uncheck Smart Network Switch to ensure your phone is not automatically switching to Mobile Data when WiFI may not be completely stable ot stronger.

I appreciate your insight, E5Destroyer. Are there any apps that are constantly running? Have you tested running the device in Safe Mode to review any odd usage sessions? http://vz.to/R3J3of

.522 of 3gb used as of 9:19pm. Thats weird if you look back at my previous posts of data used.
As far as the safe mode thing I got no idea what I am looking for when I do this.
As far as apps running I reckon none because I have the ACTIVE APPS widget on my home screen and always see it at 0.

Thanks for all the troubleshooting you've done E5destroyer! It may have tried downloading an app or update on our network at activation. Please monitor the usage and let us know if it increases unexpectantly.
