When we will get Android 7.1 Nougat for the Galaxy S7 edge
When Samsung has finished it.
I heard it could be as early as this month (January) but I'm not holding my breath
Motorola, Htc, LG. And others already got the software update
All of the manufacturers have the base code. How much resources they have devoted to updating their existing devices and how many changes they have to make to get it to work with their customizations is what delays the release of the updates to their various and numerous devices.
Simple answer is... When Verizon feels like it! The other 3 already have the update, but Verizon is just being typical Verizon. Take their time knowing we'll still be here year after year upgrading our phones.
Maybe one day they'll make us feel like we really matter to them..... Maybe
That's true! That's why Verizon, lunch unlimited data again because T-mobile is getting better and better. No shadeVerizon!
More like, they'd rather sell you new phones with the software updates on it, instead of spending money to update the software, certify it and support it when people call. To Verizon, updates are a lose lose for them.
That, until companies like T-mobile start beating them in customer service so bad that Verizon cant just coast on having "the best network". Sooner or later, Verizon is going to have to improve the customer experience or risk hemorrhaging more customers.
Verizon is slow again . sprint and AT&T have already released Nougat to there customers. Probably should have stayed with AT&T
all the other carriers have released this update. well Verizon is last again and again
Why update when they can make you wait and force you into the s8. It's not like every major carrier in the WORLD has released it or anything. America's best carrier my [Removed]

It's been done for almost 3 months. Verizon is holding it up
Verizon has absolutely nothing to do with delay.
Samsung follows the exact same process as HTC and HTC is very public about their status. Re: HTC 10 & Android 7.0. Read the entire thread from the linked point on.
Im on the beta, how about you?
The "#1 carrier" is always the last. Don't expect it till April. The same time the s8 launches. Thank God for monthly security updates...
I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you on that one Ann. Verizon has EVERYTHING to do with this delay. Samsung releases the code to ALL of the carriers. Then each carrier tests things out and of course ADDS their usual Bloatware. I believe they ALL received the update last month, so far 3 of the major carriers have released it. Verizon doing their typical drag their [Removed] because hey, they are Verizon, they can do that.
So we'll come here to voice our complaints and accomplish very little. But it is what it is.
Change HTC to Samsung. The carrier portion is maybe a month of the process. The regulatory portion can be 3 to 6 months. HTC Software Updates Process | HTC United States This is how the updates are done and not your misconception. You need to stop blaming the carriers. It is all on the manufacturers.
Are you serious? First off, HTC and Samsung are not the same. Secondly, if this is NOT Verizon's fault, then exactly HOW did AT&T, Sprint & T-Mobile all release their updates to the Galaxy S7 Edge? Do those 3 have some inside line with Samsung? I think not. And I've been with Verizon for well over 10 years. Slow updates is nothing new around here. One reason I didn't get the new Pixel XL was because I heard Verizon would handle updates.
If you want to say Verizon isn't at fault for something, then you can compare HTC to Samsung updates. In that case HTC could surely issue the update sooner, but when 3 of the 4 major carriers release, then you only have 1 to blame.. Verizon.
That Pixel you were concerned about the update schedule, they have been getting the update at the same exact time as the devices sold directly from Google. Advanced Devices Software Updates | Verizon Wireless. Both the Pixel and the Pixel XL had a update on 2/6/17.
Actually I was saying I avoided the Pixel just because of Verizon's track record of slow updates. Last I checked my S7 Edge hasn't had a security update since December 2016. Here we are in February 2017, almost March.
Also, explain why Verizon won't allow us to have Samsung Cloud on our phones? Why our Galaxy S6's didn't have Samsung Pay out of the gate like everyone else? Verizon is SO BUSY controlling what we can and can NOT have that they drag their feet with everything. I wouldn't be surprised if they remove that new Private Folder from the update as well.
So in the end, if you are happy with Verizon then good for you. Just remember you can't ignore the growing group of people who become more and more fed up every year with subpar service when paying such a premium to be here. I myself have few options, I live in an area where Verizon offers best service, otherwise I would've jumped ship years ago.
When 3 out of 4 major carriers have released 7.x their is no logical reason other then to fault carrier not manufacturer. If software bug then one found in additional software by Verizon not found in update delivered to them by Samsung. None sign my paycheck and I have worked as an R&D Engineer so I understand the process. Verizon is typical business story of a company becoming omplacent w market share and think 'they have to stay w us'. I love Verizon but frustrated that we do have to wait so long for long ago stable updates.
You can tell by the absolute lack of communication that Verizon isn't concerned with customer satisfaction. They have the update. They are holding up the update. I do not know why. This board is on Verizon. You know somebody is reading it. No answer, no reply, no explanation.
Sears was #1. now look at them. Customers will leave. Other companies will take them. Customer service is important.
What do you have to say? Verizon Wireless Services
I am COMPLETELY AGREE with your guys. expect Ann154.
I thinks Ann154 is a hidden Verizon spokesman.
HaHaHa
Samsung was charging for the Samsung Cloud which would have driven up the retail price of the phone for the Verizon model. Would you be willing to pay $100 more than the AT&T or T-Mobile customers for the same model?

You answer implies you have knowledge we don't. But it doesn't make sense that Samsung would charge Verizon and not the others. If that is the case Verizon owes us an explanation. If not, they need to release the upgrade.
Sprint: $794.99
T-Mobile: $779.00 (on sale for like $480 now)
AT&T: $794.99
Verizon: $792.00
Where is that $100 savings for NOT having Samsung Cloud? Remember, having Samsung Cloud would mean people wouldn't PAY for extra storage on the Verizon Cloud!!
I wouldn't say a little better informed, so far all you've done is post some HTC page about THEIR Android upgrade process... Haven't proven that this SLOW update from Verizon is Samsung's fault, especially since 3 other carriers already have it released. But it's all good Ann... this is just OUR way of venting, knowing full well our comments here fall on Verizon's deaf ears
HTC is one of few manufacturers to publicly post their process. Samsung doesn't have any publicly available documentation stating their exact process. Google found the carrier testing took a month at most during their AOSP pilot with Sony. They discovered the longest part of the development involved the regulatory testing for the various hardware components.
The CDMA radios and the large number of LTE frequencies and GSM networks included in the VZW devices are more expensive than a GSM/LTE only device because of the Qualcomm licensing of the CDMA technology.

Do not speak for Verizon anymore.
Does no matter first or last.
Just Let me know ETA. ^^
I think you can find out. ^^
This is a peer to peer public forum. You can't stop me from posting on the thread I chose to participate in here.
We get it, you are a contrarian. You want to be against what anyone else says debate it and 'win' no matter if the information is correct or not.
I just saw today that verizon released nougat for the motorola droid 2 turbo. The turbo was commissioned in mid 2015, over a year and a half old. But we still do not have nougat on the S7/edge. Unbelievable. I think the only thing to do here is start moving our business to t-mobile and make sure verizon knows why. Don't just leave, tell them why you are leaving.
I believe that @verizon already has the software, but they just don't want to release it, or how you're going to explain that 3 out of the 4th carries already released the software.
@verizon please treat us right as a valued customer's.
Ugh, this again? T-Mobile just released the update a week ago and it's the end of the world because Verizon hasn't yet? They may not be the fastest, but one thing I can tell you is that they most certainly are not sitting on it. The S8 isn't even officially a thing yet. If Verizon were sitting on updates to sell other devices, Samsung would stop doing business with them. Verizon doesn't make money selling devices, they make money selling the service that those devices use. So why in the world would they risk losing customers by purposely holding back updates?
Are you serious? The s8 isn't official? It has a launch date and official specs. Try again
Samsung would absolutely not drop one of the biggest providers in the world because they delay updates. The S8 is definitely a thing.
*rumored launch date
*rumored specs
My point was, the S8 has not even been announced, much less being on sale. People have brought up in this thread (and countless threads for the last 10 years) that they think Verizon is holding back updates to sell new devices. But what current device would a current Galaxy S7 owner move too? Samsung owners are just as bad as iPhone owners, they feel like the manufacturer can do no wrong.
Not sure what that has to do with anything. All it takes is an official statement about when a particular update is to be released or why it's not for Verizon. Worse still, they have not released any security updates that are regularly released for months. Do we need CDMA / fcc certification for security updates now, too?
S8 will be announced March 29. On sale april 21. No s8 rumors here. Inform yourself please before posting.
Just in case you are wondering, why customers are switching to other carriers? vzw_customer_support Verizon Wireless Services because you are making customers angry. Verizon Galaxy S7, S7 Edge Android 7.0 Nougat Update: Carrier Lags As AT&T, Sprint, And T-Mobile Release Upgrade : TECH …
And yet, it's not even March yet so that sale date and all details about the S8 are not official and still rumors.
The thing is, overall, Verizon isn't losing customers.
Keep your head in the sand and believe everything Verizon tells you or go out, research, and educate yourself. I don't care what you do. I'm just not a sheep.
That is, until they are. They sure jumped on the "unlimited data" wagon fast. After swearing they never would and that their superior network was reason enough to stay. Can't bank on that forever and if they are going to continue poor customer support, i cant wait for t mobile to eat their lunch.
Why are you arguing about this? Everyone knows it's coming.
Anyway We or I are Verizon wireless Family. ^^
We or I choose Verizon as wireless provider.
There are too many reasons for choosing Verizon.
I think this is point.
We or I think Verizon is best top wireless company but The LAST,The Bottom at reality.
so we or i very disappoint about this.
99% of customers don't know or care what version of Android (or iOS for that matter) they're on. But start talking about unlimited data, and pretty soon everyone is starting to take notice.
Seems other sites are monitoring us around here too. LOCPRES64 has become famous, need to scroll down to see the quote: http://www.techtimes.com/articles/199218/20170225/verizon-galaxy-s7-s7-edge-android-7-0-nougat-update-carrier-lags-as-at-t-sprint-and-t-mobile-release-upgrade.htm
And of course as usual, still no update for my Galaxy S7 Edge yet... the wait continues!
I’m starting to think the update will be called “Galaxy S8”
I just switched from Sprint... I am running they full nougat update on my verizon S7 edge. Just the T-Mo firmware with the Verizon CSC. Doesn't trip Knox, easy push from ODIN. And easy ODIN flash back to stock VZW to accept the OTA when it comes in April. Just Google XDA Verizon S7 edge and follow the directions from JKruse and you can be running a clean Nougat S7edge with everything working except WiFi calling. Even video calling...
Verizon Galaxy S7, S7 Edge Android 7.0 Nougat Update: Carrier Lags As AT&T, Sprint, And T-Mobile Release Upgrade @verizon #verizon you are taking forever to update our Galaxies.
Verzion is stupid slow on this update could be the 10% worse battery issue but at least give I us the option to download buggy software.
No when Verizon gets off [Removed] and gets it to us. T-mobile and Sprint have it NOW!
verizonwireless-admin vzw_customer_support @verizonwireless giving your customers an ETA would be good customer service. Please.
Won't happen, if Verizon were to give an ETA and more work needed to be done by Samsung, the backlash would be much worse than not saying anything at all.
I think if Verizon were to let people know what stage of of testing they were in it would be more beneficial than harmful. People understand that problems occur and wouldn't expect Verizon to be able to give them an exact date and time. Just a little communication to the S7/Edge owners would go a long way.
That is What I talking about.........
Yes Yes
Just a little communication is good for S7/S7 Edge users and Verizon.
You must wait with mouth shut until I give you. This is not good .......
I've been around this a long time, I've seen it happen. When people perceive a date to be promised, they absolutely lose their minds when it doesn't happen.
Yes that's what Verizon needs to do, communicate with customers not just let us wondering like crazy
COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY
Yes, it stinks that we have to wait and that VW is not providing any additional information. I check the web for stories, & blogs almost every day and don't get any news. Aside from that I was curious how Motorola Droid Turbo 2 users were liking their Nougat update and it appears they are having issues (some, not all to be fair) so I keep telling myself that it is good that SGS7 owners did not get the update yet and that VW has bugs to work out possibly that will effect our phones. Then again, it would be nice if they provided a month in which they were targeting to release Nougat for the SGS7.
How can you say that when Sprint, ATT and T-Mobile have released it on the S7? It's absolutely Verizon. Do you work for them?
I wonder if Verizon reads these posts and sees how upset customers are over this. If they do, do they care?
I believe they do... maybe once a week anyways. I posted an issue with my AoD not showing notifications and they replied asking what software version I was on. Course I replied that day and haven't heard from them since, that was at least 3 days ago I believe. So they read, just don't act very much on it.
As for other comments about Verizon not releasing a "buggy" update... well unfortunately almost all updates are buggy, whether we get it 1st or get it last. Might not be so buggy if companies like Verizon would STOP putting their own [Removed] on it... who knows. Either way, a little heads up to when we might possibly get it would be nice.

Besides the fact that all 3 other major US carriers have updated their S7 varieties which can only lead to one factor in why it is not released, Verizon Not manufacturer. Mostly likely root cause, by a mile, is issues with additional software Verizon is installing on top of release.
My problem is their are items in the 7.x update that I desire or need to assist me in my daily use of phone which is the entire reason for existence and, more importantly, why I purchased the latest, greatest and most expensive Android phone from Verizon.
Having been a R&D engineer I fully appreciate the want for a stable general release but consistently delay of the vast majority of updates by substantial time from that of others is baffling. A balance must be found between releasing a stable update and the other extreme of paralysis by analysis when it is released when virtually stale and outdated. Both of these extremes are bad for customers.
I just want a happy medium and a release so I can utilize functions to achieve better productivity. Thanks
Any apps Verizon does happen to include are not the reason for the holdup, they are already written, and can be found on the play store. The only difference is that they are put in the system partition instead of the user partition, they aren't part of the OS in any way. If there are things included with the new release that you NEED for your daily use of the phone, then you bought the wrong phone, you should have bought one that included this to start with
All that I can say, that is so strange cuz we all are here for a reason, we just want to know when the update is coming and the only one against us is Ann
When we say apps, we are talking about the BLOATWARE that Verizon puts on top of the Android Upgrades. And yes making sure those work as intended. So it very well can slow down the process, otherwise if it were the Samsung version of the update we would've had it by now.

Gotta love the Verizon apologists.
I am new to this forum and was wondering what exactly is a Verizon apologist and what would motivate one to do so?
It is really urking me off too better be no bugs when released lol.
The reason they aren't releasing it is because there is no upside for them to do it. Normally they wait for the new version of the phone to be out so that impatient people year after year upgrade the phone instead of just updating the operating system. Don't get me wrong I am one of those impatient people. But I will not go buy a new phone just have the new operating system. Verizon is ridiculous when it comes to their updates. The sad thing is all the complaining isn't going to help anything. They will only worry about it when other companies point this out and use it to lure their customers away. They only worry about their bottom line.
Yep, all updating a current phone does is create more tech support calls for them, not to mention the cost to roll it out. They’d rather keep the new features to sell new phones.
Question is - and I have been wondering this myself - is who is truly to blame? Samsung or Verizon? I know I have talked about this in multiple threads - heck even The Tech Times put out an article that Verizon was getting a lot of flack from users because of not releasing the upgrade.
Now, last I knew, the cycle is as follows...Samsung builds it with their stuff...sends it to Verizon who installs their stuff...then comes the question...do they send it back to Samsung to drop it OTA? Or does Verizon push it OTA? Last I knew, Samsung dumps all the completed firmwares for the carriers...
So - once again despite my frustrations with this and trying to be a voice of reason for really frustrated S7/S7 Edge Verizon subscribers It leads me to the following:
So Where Do The Fingers Get Pointed?
Well the only input I have left is this release must be really buggy. And I only say that because unlocked versions overseas are now getting the update.
https://www.sammobile.com/2017/03/01/nougat-now-rolling-out-for-the-galaxy-s7-and-galaxy-s7-edge-in-belgium-germany-and-…
Verizon is just being nice by holding it back... smh. I guess they just don't really care. we'll get the new Google Assistant update before we get nougat.
It goes like this:
1 Google publishes the Android source code to the AOSP repository
2 Samsung (or whoever) pulls the new version and adds in their modifications... Basically the UI, in this case known as TouchWiz, then builds it to work on whichever device ID being updated.
3 bugs rear their ugly heads and Samsung does what they can to squash them
4 (this may happen in conjunction with #2, but probably happens after Samsung is happy with their build) Verizon (or other carriers) tell and/or provide Samsung with any apps they want to include
5 update is pushed to carrier test devices for network testing and for the carrier to sign off on the update
6 carrier gives Samsung a list of changes they may want and/or additional bugs they may have found
7 Samsung modified build if needed
5, 6, 7 repeat as needed until Samsung and the carrier are satisfied
8 carrier pushes out OTA
This is specifically for carrier versions of devices, unlocked devices and, I believe, devices in other parts of the world don't have additional carrier steps, mostly because the OEM sells the devices and handles warranty issues, even if devices are sold in carrier outlets. In the US and, I believe, Canada, carriers purchase the devices in bulk and resell them to customers and they are the ones who handle warranty claims.
In this instance, where 3 of the 4 major carriers have released a version for the phone and it is being released world wide, and is the current flagship Android phone, you would think Verizon could communicate something. A simple: We have identified issues and are still working to have them corrected" would be appreciated at this point. We have all provided money for phones and service to Verizon.
Right, so whos incompetent, samsung here or verizon? I think more of the discussion is why there is no communication on the subject than anything. If they were having such a hard time with it, I think everyone would be fine if there was any sort of transparency at all. Instead, we have a couple people here who'd rather tell people how dumb they are for being mad at not getting the service/communication that they pay for.
