I was just wondering when the Samsung Galaxy S3 will receive the android 4.4 kitkat update. Samsung has said it was going to update the S3 to kitkat, but did not specify a time frame. I was wondering if anyone had a time frame.
They will likely finish the Galaxy S4 and Note 3 updates first before Samsung starts on the Galaxy S3 and Note 2.
You'll be waiting a long time. We Samsung Galaxy Note 3 / S4 users are still waiting for KitKat 4.4.2. I'm guessing that hell would freeze over before we get these updates or at least Android 4.5 or 5.0 would be released before we get KitKat.
in may
Do you have proof of this? Can you provide links if you do?
We're NOT..... http://www.sammobile.com/2014/04/21/why-the-galaxy-s-iii-might-never-get-an-update-to-android-4-4-kitkat/
Watching this pretty closely- I want to update my phone, my 2-years are up in a couple months. How verizon handles the software updates for the Galaxy 3 will have an influence on what phone I choose next. Pretty annoying to wait for months after the manufacturer releases updates for Verizon to finally send them on to the users. The last update, 4.3 seemed pretty buggy, you would think that Big Red would speed up getting the newest software out.
This site says different http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/04/18/samsung-galaxy-s3-android-4-4-kitkat-update-roundup/ . Since there are so many different opinions on tech sites, they aren't very useful for confirmation. The news of whether or not the S3 gets KitKat would have to come directly from Samsung. As far as I know, the KitKat update for the Galaxy SIII is still up in the air. If the S3 does get KitKat, you'll be waiting months longer after initial release here on Verizon, just as I have with the Samsung Note 3 which is still on 4.3 JellyBean.
Well the s4 is getting their update as we speak. And according to samsungs open source center, sprints galaxy s3 4.4.2 kitkat build has been posted, so i would assume that our s3 is getting the update as well. The problems that samsung is having with the s3's are the international versions that have 1gb ramand a different processor. Sprint even confirmed thatbthe are updating the s3 to kitkat and samsung has said the the united states s3's will be updated.
Samsung "Officially Announced" in February that the S3 on ALL US Carriers would get updated to KitKat. I will go with an official announcement over a link to an unofficial 'guess' every time.
We will be getting the update. The S4 just started getting the update last week and it sounds like the Note 2 is getting it internationally right now. That is a good sign. We are always right behind the Note 2 on updates. I would guess we get it on Verizon in Late May or early June.
It looks like I'm getting it right now. I connected my SIII to my laptop and it immediately said check for device software update. I clicked continue and now it has been downloading "New Software available for Galaxy S(R) III (SCH-I535)"
Praying that this will not cause problems to the magnitude 4.3 did.
SAME HERE! DOWNLOADING AS I TYPE!
TAKE THAT BACK! IT WAS JUST SOME ROAMING UPDATE THAT PUT OUT! UGH!
The new update that just came out is simply to allow roaming on the Canadian Telus network. Latest I read is that Sprint might be rolling out the 4.4 this week or next. Still up in the air when and if AT & T is getting it, most likely we will be, but Verizon is usually the last carrier to get the updates.

Looks like Sprint is sending out the 4.4.2 update today. Verizon should be about a month away with how they do updates. Sprint starts rolling out Android 4.4 KitKat for Samsung Galaxy S3 | Android Central
Any chance a Verizon rep could respond? I looked on the Verizon support website, and found in the index of updates that the Samsung Galaxy S3 was getting an update on 4/30/14. On opening the update details page, the page was annotated that it was last updated in December of 2013. Not giving me a warm fuzzy. The content of the update on the details page was the Canadian connection update. No word on the Android 4.3 update or the Android 4.4.2 update.
After trashing out one of my phones with the 4.3 update, I've been deferring the OTA update EVERY DAY since January on both of my Galaxy S3's, to keep them at 4.1.2 (one phone was replaced to get back to the older, working version). I've been waiting on a working update for several months.
It sure would be nice if someone from Verizon would address this on the Verizon Wireless Community discussion group. The question has been open for over two weeks, and there's reason in the press to wonder about Verizon's timing.
Anyone, Anyone, Buehler, Buehler?
Over a month since the question was asked, over a week since I asked Verizon to respond. No useful information on KitKat update. Meanwhile, I continue to defer the 4.3 update every day. I am not satisfied with the level of service Verizon is providing in supporting my devices.
The KitKat update for the Galaxy S3 isn't available yet.
Verizon is about 6-8 weeks behind for Android updates from the rest of the carriers. As far as I know, so far only Sprint has begun rolling out 4.4.2 KitKat to the Galaxy SIII. I have the Note 3 and just received the KitKat update a few days ago while Sprint updated theirs back in February, so figure sometime in June - early July for the SIII.
May is almost over. No sign of update!!!
Can we please get an answer on this Verizon Customer Service Kathleen. As mentioned by many users, we pay the most for our service yet with regards to updates, we are always dead last. What happens if our bill is late after 2 months? Terminate service right? Well I, like many others, am getting sick of always being the last to the party. There is no communication with your end users. The 4.3 update was delayed because of "verizon's commitment to push out a great update that's bug free." Well heres the funny thing, we wait what 3 months from when the international version updated and we still had the same bugs they did. So what exactly did verizon do??? Its really frustrating, no one cares about the customers there. I've been a loyal customer for 17 years, but enough is enough. Sprint issued the update weeks ago, yet no movement from verizon. I find it very hard to believe that a company like verizon cant get the resources to push timely updates. Absolute garbage.
Don't forget the fact that almost every other phone on Verizon has gotten the KK update. So if we're keeping score, the S3 is literally the last phone to receive the update. It's absolutely absurd and Verizon just doesn't seem to care. As long as they get their money every month, they're happy.
I hear you my friend. Verizon is very slow when it comes to software updates. My contract will be up in a few months too. There will be a consideration of this behavior in my next phones upgrades. I am not happy with verizon in this front. It is lagging behind its competitors in this respect.
I did not get it. Can you explain if you got in detail.?
http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/04/29/samsung-galaxy-s3-android-4-4-kitkat-update-u-s/
We should get it whenever the heck Verizon decides to get off their lazy butt and give to us. This might occur in 3 weeeks or longer.
Look at all the problems everyone is having with kitkat. So many phones are inflected with bad software. If your phone is working fine, you are good to go.
Be careful what you wish for. Read the posts.
Really! I guess you haven't noticed the hundreds of complaint's on this site alone about the 4.3 update. The 1st iteration of Kit Kat was released in December of 2013. They are now on the 3rd version. Now 7 Months latter and the Verizon S3 is still on what may well be the buggiest release ever. I have a simple wish. That Verizon would push out timely updates that are probably tested and without excessive bloat ware, but I know that is wising for the moon.
I've been checking online almost everyday to see any news regarding the KK update for S3. Verizon Customer Service needs to give us SOMETHING, ANYTHING at this point to give us any kind of idea about what's going on. I know they are always the last to update anything but it's not because they are trying to make sure it's 'bug free' that's for sure. 4.3 messed up everything from the Wifi connecting/disconnecting to serious lag in everything even in the default messaging app & I know it can't be just my phone that this has happened to. Over time it has gotten somewhat better, but not enough for what I'm paying a month. Something's got to give, With my phone at this point I'm just ready to throw it away & get a basic phone. It's not the phone itself, I've been through 3. All the same thing. GIVE US SOMETHING, I KNOW YOU CS PEOPLE SEE US TALKING ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone have any updated information about the kit Kat update for the s3?
I sucks How Verizon is always the last to roll out updates
This is the 4.3 update all over again
The Note II just started getting it yesterday, so hopefully the S3 is next. It seems like it's not just Verizon, but Samsung as well that delays the release of these updates. All of the other Verizon Android phones already got their updates. Honestly, I'm not due for a new phone until January, but I'm looking at the LG G3 (or G4 if they put it out by then) for my next phone.
Canadian and AT&T versions of the S3 just started receiving 4.4 today. Hopefully that means we're getting it in the next couple weeks.
Hi lk149,Thanks for your interest in the software update for the S3 device. For any news or updates on if and when this update gets released, please visit http://bit.ly/n5snpq. Thank you! EdW_VZWFollow us on twitter @VZWSupport
Um yeah there is no news on that site about the update. Can't you give us something concrete? Verizon is always the last major carrier to update their phones. To be quite frank I'm getting sick of it it makes me wonder if Verizon really wants me as a customer.
These Verizon forum reps just give stupid generic, scripted answers.
Really...."thank you for your interest." Paleeeease. And post a link that
tells us absolutely Nothing. Pfffttt.
Yes, I need that update too and am anxiously awaiting for it. Samsung says it's up to Verizon and the following carriers have already released their KitKat 4.4:
Samsung Galaxy S® III
KitKat update is available for Sprint
KitKat update is available for Boost
KitKat update is available for Virgin Mobile
SO Verizon, when will you release the update???
I think that lame CS reply just pissed me off more. My phone is SOOO SLOW and I don't even have many apps downloaded. Come on now Verizon, stop being (removed) and release the flippin' update for the s3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No patience in here apparently. Read http://www.droid-life.com/2014/06/19/verizons-samsung-galaxy-s3-galaxy-s4-mini-kit-kat/
charleyjad3_21, sorry. We haven't been advised of when the next software update will be released. However, we can help you speed that device up. Try uninstalling any unwanted applications on your device, delete old text messaging conversations, clear the call log, and clean out your e-mail inbox. Once you've cleared those things out, power your phone off/on to soft reset it. Keep us posted. LasinaH_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
Lasinah_vzw, please check your own site. http://www.verizonwireless.com/dam/support/pdf/system_update/galaxy_s3-6-19-14.pdf
Freakin Hilarious... Nice Ann. Vzw reps don't even know what is happening
in their own company. How embarrassing is that!!!!!
It says it out for the s3 but I keep checking my phone and still no update. Does it take a while to reach everyone?
Updates are rolled out in waves, so it takes several days to a few weeks before all phones are updated.
OK, yes the update has been announced today and here is the deployment schedule. So I guess we have to wait until midnight.
From 6/20-6/24 you can manually download it by checking for updates on your phone.
After that, you will be sent an update notice that it is available.
Estimated download time is 6-10 minutes and install time is another 6-10 minutes.
If roaming, you will need to be on WiFi.
.
Here is the full schedule:

I noticed at your linked page that conspicuously absent from the 'new' features is "Host Card Emulation". This was included in ALL versions of Kit Kat by Google in order to allow tap & pay with Google Wallet regardless of phone carrier. I hope that this omission is simply due to Verizon not posting a 'complete' list of new features and NOT because they removed it. If it's the latter, I will be done with Verizon!
