Why are notifications disappearing

Here's what happens. I'm using Verizon's own messaging service Messages+

Text comes in
Notification in status bar appears
Don't touch anything
Notification disappears

Now there is no way to know a text has come in (had I not been looking/listening)

THIS IS CRAZY! Verizon - what is going on?

All I do is text. If my text messaging didn’t work, I may as well have no phone. I understand how important this is to you. I’ll be more than happy to assist you. Are your phone and all of the apps installed up to date on their software? When did this start happening? Besides the notifications being gone, are the message still there for you to view? On the home page of the message+ app, where you see all of the threads if you hit the three lines at the top left, select settings>notification, is the popup option and the "mark as read on close" enabled?

- After the Oreo update

- Yes, the messages are still there

- Pop-up option is off as I do not use this feature. "Mark read on closed" is therefore also off.

Thanks for confirming those details with us. What you're experiencing with the notifications is really strange. Let's dig a little deeper. Are the notifications for the app turned on when you go to main device Settings > Notifications > Message+ as well? We want to be sure there isn't a conflict happening between the app and the phone. If the notifications are turned on in the phone's settings, please reset the app by following the steps shown here https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-211228/ . Resetting the app will remove any customization(custom tones, themes, etc.) but will not delete your messages. Let us know if this works for you.

Is it? Have you googled the issue and seen all the complaints online?

Yes, they are turned on.

Has there been no new information regarding this? I'm having the same issue as the original post. I am using Message+ on a Samsung Galaxy S8+. Sometimes, I can even watch the notification disappear before my eyes while I'm looking at the notification bar! When the notification disappears, the badge on the Message+ icon also disappears, so it's as if I had cleared it myself. Opening the app shows that the message is still unread. On a few occasions, the notification has reappeared several (somewhere between 5 and 60) minutes later!

I don't have a smart watch, nor do I use the desktop version of Message+; I do sometimes use Pushbullet for Windows, but this happens when my computer is not even turned on (like when it just happened to me 10 minutes ago), plus I've used Pushbullet for almost two years with no issue.

If I had to guess, I'd say this issue started happening sometime in the past couple months, but I can't be sure. I haven't tried uninstalling Message+ yet because I'm afraid I will lose texts, images, or videos when I do so. If I can be assured that I will not lose anything, and that if/when I choose to reinstall the app, all messages will be back to the way they were before uninstallation, then I will give it a try.

I had a similar problem to this and resolved it, but can't say it's the same thing causing the problems anyone is posting here.

I use Nova Launcher. For some reason, it was clearing notifications as soon as the popup disappeared (for whatever notification it might be - if it used a window shade style notification, once that cleared, the notification cleared).

I went into my phone settings, changed my launcher to another launcher (in my case, the LG Home launcher), then back to Nova Launcher. Somehow, that resolved my issue.

I doubt this will resolve the issue for everyone, but hopefully it at least helps out a few people.

Does this remain unanswered and unresolved? I ask because I'm experiencing this same issue and have been since the system update before the most recent one (most recent was just a few days ago; the one that started this was perhaps a month or two prior -- June sounds about right).

Considering how many people are having the problem, I would hope it isn't being ignored.

The only commonality I see so far on my phone is that I am running pushbullet. I'm happy to uninstall that app if it will aid in troubleshooting. I paid for it, so if the problem is the app, I want to know.

I rely on my texts for pretty much everything, cdkarlsson. I’d certainly be concerned about such a step as uninstalling then reinstalling an app. You’re asking for a guarantee you won’t lose anything, and while I’d like to say that, I’m unable to. I can say that I did this on my device (Note 8), where uninstalling is “disabling” after clearing the cache, and did not lose any messages. My concern for you is that you use apps I’m unfamiliar with (Pushbullet, for instance). It’s up to you if you want to take the next appropriate step and uninstall the update to the Message + app. Please keep us posted on what happens.

I have a Samsung S9. This problem with Message+ seems to be getting worse. I'm not using any of those other apps mentioned. I do sync to a tablet and a laptop, but this didn't start happening until a couple months ago.

Me too. I am no longer receiving text msg, or voicemail notifications after the update. I hate this update. Also, most of apps now just continuously crash all throughout the day, everyday. Never happened like this prior to forced update.

I am having the same issue since my last phone update. Text notifications appear in the notifications bar briefly and disappear. I often don't know I have texts until hours have gone by. The little green dot isn't always present either. Additionally, my voice mails aren't coming through for hours. I have a Moto Z Play. Please help! I haven't tried anything that's been suggested, as it appears it's working for no one else.

bean.chi.chi, I can imagine your level of frustration and know it's important you're not missing any important text messages or voicemails that come through. I'll be glad to help correct these service concerns and delayed voicemails for hours isn't the experience we want for you. Please reference the links attached at the bottom for how to Force Stop and Clear Data on both your texting application and Visual Voicemail app. You don't lose any personal content with this step, it simply allows you to set up the apps from scratch. Any solution to this issue yet? I have the Galaxy S7 and use the Verizon text messaging app, and for the last couple of months my text notification on my home screen, and the blinking light, are disappearing after only about 15 minutes. This is very frustrating, as I don't look to see if I have a new text message and rely on this notification. I am missing several text messages because of this!

I can certainly understand that this is frustrating. If notifications are not properly delivered, you can miss your messages completely.

Have you attempted any of the troubleshooting steps mentioned in this thread, such as clearing cache or uninstalling/reinstalling the app? Does the issue persist if you change your default messaging app?

Is verizon doing anything about this issue? This was annoying on my personnel phone a year ago and is not a real issue with missing messages on my work phone as well. This type of issue does not exist in other messaging apps. The listed steps do not resolve and the issue has been known long enough to have rewritten the entire app let along debug one problem.

Does this issue occur if you use the installed messages application on the phone? I know there is a lot of information on this thread. What steps are you referring to?

I dont see where this has been resolved. I have had this issue ever since I changed over to the S9 (when it first came out). After 30-45 minutes the notification disappeared. I have contacted tech support in the past to no avail. It seems to be an issue with Message+ from verizon. There is no steps here that have worked to keep my notification. All other notifications remain until I clear them out.

I've been having the same issue for at least a year, on the Note 8 and now the Note 9. I have done all of the troubleshooting: Safe Mode, clearing cache, uninstalling/reinstalling, etc. Nothing works. What terrible the most is having to remember to check my messages every morning because the notification disappears at some point during the night.

We understand how important the notifications are to you. This has gone on for such a long time. I can only imagine your frustration. I do see there was an update to the software on the Note 9 devices. Is your software up to date? Can you please confirm the software version on your device?

This is still happening to people it seems? Still happening to me for over a year on my S8, I had just been resigned to living with it until I get a new phone. Well, I got a new S10, and it is STILL happening. Get it together. Fix the app, or remove it completely from your software package.

Akinit, we certainly understand the importance of being notified when a message is received. Do you have this trouble with the Message application on the phone?

Via the Message + application, there is a way to report a bug. Tap the menu key > settings > account > report a bug.

I'm also having this problem with a brand new Motor Z4. Extremely frustrated. Even more so now that I see Verizon has known about this for a couple years and hasn't fixed it. They should be able to.

My new Galaxy S10plus seems to have the same behavior with the Message+ app as the default Text Message application. I have Pop-up enabled, but when message is received I see a notification for perhaps 5 seconds and then it dispappears. Previously the notification would stick on the home screen until i dismissed it.

To be honest, I did not read all 7 pages of this thread.

My phone is the Samsung S7 Edge and the problem is with Verizon Message+ app. I don't remember when this started but I believe it's been over a year. I do not receive consistent push notifications from this app. Sometimes they appear in the status bar/on the lock screen when I receive a text, and sometimes they don't. It's unclear if it has to do with the number of texts I receive. It happens when I receive one or two texts from one person, and also happens if I receive multiple texts from different people. This means that I don't know when texts come in until I go into the app for an unrelated reason and then see I've received messages. In settings, every option for notifications for this app are set to sound and pop up on screen, notifications are on, badges are on, and it is set to draw over other apps. I also had the reminder notification set at one point to try and push them back through but that didn't work either.
