Why are text notifications blocked from a single contact?

For one contact there is a speaker icon with an x by it, and I don't get notifications of incoming text from this contact (only this one contact.) Can't find how to fix the issue

Sounds like you're using Verizon Messages and have muted the conversation with that contact.  Open the text conversation, tap the three dots in the upper right-hand corner, then tap Unmute Conversation.

Which phone model do you have?

Look under the blocking options in the Contact application.

The contact is not blocked. Her messages come through - I can read them. I'm just not notified - like I was previously - for this one contact only, by the notification sound.

The notification on silent? Is the contact set to go straight to voicemail?

Notification is not on silent - all other contacts' texts have sound; just not from this one person, who has a speaker icon and an "x" next to her name. Contact is not blocked - I can read the texts when they are sent, just don't know when I receive a text from this one person as no sound signifies an incoming text.

I guess I learned something about an application I have never used.

Go to the the message stream from the blocked person.  Tap on the three dots at the top right. Then look at the VERY BOTTOM of the page.  There will be the word "notification" with a little bell above it.  If the bell has a line through it, you are muting them.  Tap that bell and it will turn orange.  Now you are good to go.
