Why can I not just have a new phone.

I am on my 3 refurbished replacement phone and am starting to get fustrated with Verizon. Every refurbished Galaxy S III that has been sent to me has had a different malfunction. Why can't I just have a new phone enstead of a refurbished one.

Devices replaced under warranty are replaced with refurbished devices.

You also have the choice of purchasing a new device at full retail price.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

my original Galaxy 3 III was less than a year old so I still have over a year left on my contract. I paid quite a bit of money for this phone and now you are telling me that in order to get a phone that works I will once again have to pay full price for a phone. So begins my fustration with Verizon.

That is how it works. You received a device at a reduced price, in turn you agreed to have a two year contract and during the first year of the contract, if there are issues with the device, you agreed to have it swapped out for a refurbished device.

It could be worse, they could just take your phone and send it in for repairs and who knows how long you would be without a phone

Even if you had insurance to cover loss, theft or damage during the second year, you would pay a deductible and most likely would receive a refurbished device.

I do carry the insurance and you are right about the contract but I am still fustrated that out of 3 replacement phones, all 3 have something wrong with them. And yes I did get my original phone at a discount price but it was still $300+  so it should of lasted longer than 6 to 7 months.

Have you asked about an alternate replacement (different model entirely) now that you've had issues with so many of the same model in a row?  It's worth a try.

I did talk to a rep. at my local Verizon store who basicly told me the same thing you did about the contract but I think I will try calling the Verizon Customer Service..

I had three Galaxy 2's and all were malfunctioning.  They switched me to a Droid Razr and never had an issue.  I actually like the Droid better.  Verizon was good about it, so ask and might happen for you.

Yes, it should, that's why they have a warranty, and the warranty says that after 14 days and up to 1 year, they will replace it with a refurbished device.

If you buy a new car and have problems with the transmission after 6 months, do they give you a new car, or "refurbish" the one you have? (It's not like Verizon is doing something "new and different" with their warranty)

I'm sorry you're having issues with your Galaxy 3 device yaya09. I can understand how frustrating this is and we would love to help you with your issues. If you are having issues with your phone, we will trouble-shoot. If we can not fix the issue we can replace it with a certified like new phone of the same model if the phone is under the one-year manufactures warranty and no damage. If you are past the one year manufactures warranty we can not replace the phone. You can replace your phone with insurance or you can buy a phone at full price. What issues are you having with your phone?

Thank you for responding. The third replacement phone runs my battery down to 20% battery life within a 3 hour period. Invitations to join Candy Crush will pop up when I am trying to text or read one of the news apps I have loaded. But the biggest issue to me with the last Galaxy is the running down of the battery. I do carry the insurance and my original phone was less than a year old.

Let's get your S3 some energy yaya09.

Do you use the phone constantly throughout the day? How do you use it? Heavy use can cause the battery to drain faster than normal.  If you remove the back and the battery, does the battery look ok? Is it swollen? Any physical or water damage?

Do you charge the phone to 100% before you start using again? If you have any battery saver or task killer apps, please uninstall them as they do more harm to the battery life then good.

Do you have Candy Crush installed on your phone? If so the Candy Crush ads would be coming from that application.

Please provide additional details so I can better assist.

You can ask for an alternate replacement, please keep in mind that's quite likely not going to be possible. If they can do it, excellent! If not, I recommend taking the same phone. I'd rather you know that going in rather than finding out when you call.

As for the issue with refurbished phones, your original phone had an issue, and it was brand new. In my experience, brand new phones have exactly the same issues as "used" ones. It's a bit like playing the lottery and is the reason tech support exists. Electronics always have issues.
