You need to turn on Advanced Calling (HD Voice) in your Verizon account and make sure VoLTE is turned on in phone settings. You also need to be in an LTE area. Then you will have simultaneous voice and data.

I have turned on advanced calling and switched from global to LTE/CDMA and still can't use data when making a call. What the hell is the point of upgrading to a new phone that doesn't do simple things my old clunky DNA did? When ever I get a call or make a call the darn thing kicks over to 1x and turns off data. This is a huge issue.

You must turn on VoLTE or LTE calling also. That is going to be in a different area of your android phone. I am iPhone only, so you'll have to wait for an android person to show up if you can't find it. But that is what you need to do.
2 parameters
Advanced Calling turned on in your account online
and
LTE calling or VoLTE turned on the phone.

I have been into every dang menu on this phone I have not seen volte or let calling. I have HD calling turned on. The network is set to LTE/CDMA. This is the dumbest thing ever. What is the point in buying a brand new phone if they are going to make you use old out dated technology?

For some reason when I tested it last night it wasn't working. For some reason without changing anything it started working today.
