Wi-Fi calling doesn't work, or requests Airplane mode to be turned off

Hello,

Currently using the Samsung S8, and in the past the Wi-Fi calling option always worked. Now, I cannot get it to work, and when I try to make a call in Airplane mode, it states "Turn off Airplane mode to make this call? Cancel; Turn off". I have tried turning the option on/off, along with the HD calling option as well. No such luck.

Yes, it has all of the latest updates including the new OS update this

week. I get a message that still states "turn off airplane mode to make

this call?". I checked and Wi-Fi calling is still listed as on.

I have been on the phone with Verizon for over an hour trying to get my S8 to do wifi calling to while in airplane mode to operate.

Before the last 2 updates it did work.

Now is just says take phone out of airplane mode to work.

by placing the phone in airplane mode the whole purpose is to make the phone use WIFI ONLY to place voice calls and SMS texts even if there is 1 BAR of service so I don't drops call when the signal is bad (like in a basement of a building) .

After a LONG support call it was determined that the updates seem to have broken the wifi calling while in airplane mode.

HOWEVER...

I have found if I place my phone in airplane mode then immediately connect to a wifi network and reboot the phone it must clean up the 'routing' as both wifi-calling and texting will work.

I have the phone set to use WIFI if Verizon is not the preferred network when roaming.

I've used WiFi calling in airplane mode since 2018, first on my LG G7 think, and now on my Samsung. Yesterday it stopped working. Went to the Verizon store. Was told that WiFi calling never works in airplane mode, but I know that's not true, since I've been doing it for almost 4 years. So now I have airplane mode off with WiFi calling on, but I know it's not working because with my weak cell signal, calls are dropping now.

But here's The other thing: WiFi calling in airplane mode still works on my LG G7 ThinQ! It's an older phone with an older OS that isn't getting OTA updates anymore.

So something Verizon pushed out recently has corrupted WiFi calling, and they aren't owning up to it.

My phone is now useless. Cell signal at our house is awful - non-existent really. Without wifi calling we cannot make or receive calls or texts. Even when I turn off airplane mode and connect to wifi, the phone insists on using the cellular network.

Good luck reaching anyone at tech support. Even level 2 isn't answering the phone.

You have to turn airplane mode ON, then turn Wi-Fi back ON. In that order.
