If you think you are having a difficult time with WiFi and your phone, you might wish to download a program like WiFi Analyzer. Run it and look to see if your router is broadcasting on a channel that is already occupied by surrounding routers. If so, go into configuration of the router and change the channel to be distant from the other routers in your immediate vicinity.
Another thing you can do is attempt to move your router to another location. It can have a dramatic effect.
Then you begin investigating using a better antenna or perhaps a WiFi "Range Extender".
