Started on 6/30/14. The wifi icon, will turn a dull green when touched for about 15 seconds, then it goes back to grey and won't scan or turn-on. It was working just fine the night before. On 7/1/14, it worked briefly (for about an hour), then it stopped and hasn't worked since. I did not updates, app downloads, etc recently.

Oh boy! We want to make sure you are able to access WiFi again, columbine8. Can you try WiFi when the phone is in Safe Mode http://vz.to/15rkFOi?

the WiFi worked in Safe Mode. When I turned Safe Mode off, it was still working for a little while, however, I notice as it re-loaded apps, the WiFi disabled again. I wonder if I should try Safe Mode again, and turn it off again, but pay attention to which app was re-loaded when the WiFi quit working?

I re-did Safe Mode, the WiFi did NOT turn-on this time, however, when I turned Safe Mode off, the WiFi DID turn-on. I went and uninstalled all the apps that were most recently downloaded from my phone. It's been about 30 minutes and it's still working so far (fingers crossed). I'm cautiously optimistic the issue was in one of those apps I removed.

well, problem is NOT solved. The WiFi will only stay on for about 30 min to 1 hr in both safe mode and regular. Sometimes it will turn-on, and sometimes it won't. Now I don't know if a factory reset will help since it won't even stay on in Safe mode. Please advise

Thank you for reaching back out to us, columbine8. If your phone is still experiencing these issues even through Safe Mode, it sounds like something may have changed with the software. If it was done by a possible OS update or app update, safe mode will not override it. A factory reset will. I would recommend that step only after you have backed up all your important content. Please keep us updated.

Thanks so very much for completing that step of toubleshooting.
We regret that it didn't work for your S4. This is really odd. We would be glad to check on your warranty replacement options.
Is there any physical or moisture damage to the phone?

I also have a Galaxy S4 and mine started to do this same thing a few days ago. I also tried the factory reset with no luck!

Hi Katie,
unfortunately, I resorted to contacting Samsung directly. Since my phone is still under warranty, I am sending it into them for repair. Leave me w/o a phone for about 2 weeks, but, hoping it works. Once Verizon asked me to check the settings on my router, I knew they had no other solutions for me. Good luck!!
I'll try and report back once I hear from Samsung and let you know my outcome on all this.

For what it is worth, I am not Verizon. I am a customer of Verizon just like you. I suggested changing your router settings because doing that fixed my S4 when it was having problems staying connected to Wifi. However I see that your have trouble connecting to other wifi networks so a repair from Samsung is probably the right choice. Good Luck.

did your phone just recently update to KitKat? If so - turn off the Bluetooth - then the wifi should connect just fine. My phone has a whole wifi/bluetooth battle going on since I got the update.

no damage what-so-ever!!!. The WiFi worked after about 5 hours following the factory reset, but, it only stayed working for about a day and a half. It has since stopped working again. I have used almost 80% of my data for the month doing all of this. I'm really frustrated.

Try going into your settings menu on your router and change the channel number if offered. You can also change the frequency. If any of those two are set to AUTO, change to an actual number. remember what they were so you can change them back if you want.

I do not think that is the issue. The WiFi won't turn on no matter if I'm at home or work or anywhere else with a WiFi connection. I have contacted Samsung directly and I'm working with them to get my phone repaired since it's still under warranty.

Has anyone figured out this issue? I have the same problem on my S4, WiFi will not turn on. Goes light green then back off. This is an intermittent issue, sometime it works. But only for a little while. Seems to be more consistent if I turn on WiFi but there is no network to connect to; it.e. then the WiFi actually comes on.
However, it is totally random and has been for a couple of months. However, at this time it does NOT work most of the time, so it's a problem.
I also tried the standard stuff - pull battery while phone is on, turn off phone for 30 minutes, etc. Nothing has worked. Also, it makes no difference it my phone is in safe mode or not; WiFi does not toggle on in Safe Mode either. Searched the internet for hours last night and this is not uncommon. However, seems like even those folks that rooted have not solved this issue.
My phone is out of warranty. Without working WiFi it is somewhat useless.
