Will Verizon allow previous Note 7 users trade in early to get a Note 8?

I was curious if Verizon is going to cater to previous Note 7 owners that were forced to turn in there phone due to the Recall? Samsung is giving note 7 owners a instant $495 trade in offer to allow them to get the new Note 8. This is only good for buying it through Samsung and would still mean having to pay the remainder of the phone you currently have first. I had a long discussion with a Verizon rep last night and said that I will still have to pay my remaining balance of my current phone to upgrade to the Note 8. Which is another problem. Only apple phones are allowed to upgrade yearly when they have paid 50% or more of their current apple device. All other phones now have to pay the full balance before upgrading. I think Verizon should make a special offer for former note 7 owners to be able to turn in there current phone, even if it means we don't get a trade in bonus, to be able to go back to the note phone. I hope a Verizon rep looks in on these forum questions and gets something in the works.

I am wondering this too. I only upgraded because I wanted the new Note 7 phone. I would not have chosen to upgrade had that phone not been available. So now I've wasted my 2yr upgrade on a phone that I don't want!

I don't care that it was Samsung's problem, they effected Verizon just like they effected me and everyone else.

I will be calling around to stores after work today to see what the general managers have been told. Though protocol usually changes day to day for those poor guys... We shall see.

Ditto. I was appreciative of being able to upgrade to the note 7 from the note edge but I still had to trade in my phone and wasn't able to get it back after the debacle of returning it twice. So here I am stuck with an s7 edge and either have to pay it off or wait for the note 9. I'm a note fan and have enjoyed the note series since the note 2. It's not all of our fault that Samsung rushed things and put out an inferior product twice. But now that the note 8 has come out I feel that carriers should get with Samsung, or vise versa, and allow previous note 7 customers the option to upgrade at no penalty. I feel since Samsung is willing to trade in phones at a significant amount that they should absorb these payoff costs as well through the carriers. Very simple. They[Removed] and it cost them. Well guess what they're not done paying for that [Removed] yet.

I'm interested to see what Verizon does with this situation. They were very good with the trade in debacle when it happened and I got myself a Google Pixel XL. Though it's a great phone, I really want back in the Note Life. Verizon, please be the ones who beat the other competition to the punch and make this happen. I could not be more disappointed thus far with this situation. We were forced to return the Note 7, twice, and I had already turned my Note 5 in for the discount program. I had no choice but to go to another phone. So I ended up with a Pixel XL. I was told, again, if and when, the Note 8 comes out I would be able to return to it. I chatted with Verizon the day before the pre-order began and was told I could return the Pixel XL and the remainder of the purchase agreement would be waived and I could pre-order the Note 8. I attempted to do so the next day, and have not been able to get it done yet.

Verizon, this is bad business. Samsung didn't tell me this, YOU did and now YOU are not standing behind your word. You say it is not your fault? Well, it is not the former Note 7 owner's fault either. You made promises that you are not currently keeping and only offering a trad-in program that anyone can take advantage of while not looking after your committed customers.

How many people effected by the Note 7 recall actually have the device they were forced to go to paid off? Not many, I assure you. I have been a customer with Verizon going on 15 years and this is the response?

They are not going to help! The 480 trade in credit will be spread out over the monthly payments. They refuse to give the credit upfront and put towards the payoff on the downgraded phone I had to get because of having to turn in 2 note 7s. Samsung deal is just as bad..425 credit toward the purchase through them, still have to trade in your phone and pay off balance, and if you dont qualify for the Samsung credit, you have to pay cash to get it.

It is how the "credit" is being applied that is the problem. Its not a

credit really..it should be applied to the balance of the phone you are

having to trade. I would not have traded my Note 5 off for a s7edge. But

actually, I had to. When the recall happened, I wanted my Note 5 back, was

told I had to choose another phone because the 5 wasnt available anymore.

I dont have a problem paying the 40 a month, but not in addition to having

to pay off this phone or continue to pay 36 a month as well.

I agree. I am willing to pay for the Note 8,...just not on top of buying my Pixel to do it. It would be different had I not been told I would be able to trade Pixel back in once Note 8 came out.

messages through facebook. They keep saying they are looking into making

some changes, they've had a long time to work this out!

I feel entirely betrayed by Verizon. My wife and I have been loyal customers for almost 10 years now. I was forced to give up my Note 7 because of this fiasco. I downgraded to the S7 edge. Now the Note 8 is coming out, they want me to finish paying for a phone that I didn't want in the first place, rather than being able to trade it in for the device I want.

I am extremely disappointed in the way Verizon is handling this situation.

As everyone has stated buying a Note 7 was a disadvantage. So you are now stuck in contract and the trade-in credit does nothing in reality because you are not going to make 2 payments until the Note replacement is paid off.

Solution: Switch to T-Mobile. They will buy out what ever value is left (up to $650) for every phone in your plan. Or wait to pay off your phone and buy a different brand phone.

Samsung does not deserve my loyalty with this deal. The Note 8 looks great but, there are great phones coming out everyday. The only major differentiation is the stylus. Yeah there are other things, but most are very close seconds.

It does not help us stuck in contracts with "replacement phones". Why should we have to fork out nearly $500 to pay them off?

Just give us our original 1yr 50% eligible upgrade back that you stole.

We traded in our Note 7's twice and downgraded to the S7 edge for all 3. We were told that we would be able to upgrade to the Note 8 as soon as it came out with no out of pocket costs. Guess we shouldn't have believed what we were being told. I would love to get back to the Note series of phones but we cant afford paying off 3 phones then getting this awful per month discount. Verizon should use the discount to pay off our downgraded phones and let us pay off or have monthly payments on the Note 8. So disappointed.

I really hope Verizon is listening! The "deal" that they, and Samsung have

is not helping the majority of Note 7 users. I spent the majority of the

day yesterday on yhe phone with both companies, I will say Verizon was

easier to talk with, however, this issue cant be fixed with a customer

service rep, it needs to be addressed by someone on up the chain. I am just

hoping with the calls, text, emails and forums that one of those higher ups

will do something.

We all understand the 50% off promo. The problem is we cant take advantage of that offer because we owe too much on these "replacement" phones. We arent able to use the Samsung offer for the same reason. My bill is 535, my payoff is 595, then the taxes for the note8 $95. In addition to buying new case, screen protector and new car charger. What we need is to have the replacement phone become eligible for upgrade by using the 480 toward the payoff, and I am willing to pay the 40 a month through the payment plan for the note 8. Not trying to get something for nothing, just want the credit to go where we need it.

This is insanity. Neither Verizon or Samsung really care about the base of Note 7 owners. When I read Note 7 users will get almost 50% discount I was relieved they came through. But oh no. I trade in my S6 for the Note 7 and get my trade in credit. I am happy. Then I am forced to return my phone and am forced to buy a new phone (can't get my S6 back) under the belief I would be made whole when the next Note came out.

Now the Note is here and the bait and switch is announced of up to $425 discount to Note 7 owners. In the last line of the small print is the - this does not excuse you of your monthly payment on the phone you are trading in. HUH????? So as stated above as a loyal Note 7 owner I get to pay MORE for my Note 8 because I was loyal and bought the only decent phone available S7E and my balance is more than the trade in credit. Oh yeah the S7E was still at premium pricing and I am financing almost $800 for a phone I passed on originally to get the Note.

I know I received a $75 credit for my trouble which ends up being less than minimum wage for the hours I spent at the Verizon store (which I hate to go into), talking to customer service again and again and then loading and reloading my apps and customization onto each phone.

So no, I disagree about taking the S7E back and let me pay full price for the Note 8, I want what is being portrayed for all the troubled Note 7 owners. Take your S7E back and sell me a Note 8 at a discount like you are trying to make it look like you are doing.

Is this the same deal that you get in South Korea? I bet not.

My question is does samsung reimburse Verizon for their phone when we trade it in?? It would be nice if Verizon could work something out with samsung.... if we get the phone at $425 off from samsung is Verizon getting the same deal and charging it's customers more? Just not quite sure how that works. I think it's crazy that I have to pay up front. My note 5 was paid off so when I traded up to the 7 I didn't have to pay any out of pocket but now I have to pay off this s7e that I did not and still do not really want.

Samsung, Verizon, you hear and see the predicament, previous Note 7 owners are in. You companies are worried about your profit , which you won't reap if you force us to turn away from you because your so called discounts, do not benefit most of the people it's supposed to be for in the first place.

Samsung is guilty for forcing us to to purchase another phone, in most cases, having to go into a payment plan, because we put all our eggs in the basket with the Note 7 and got burned. Pun intended.

Verizon, you just wanted to make any sale so you practically swore to us that we would in the future, have the option to early upgrade this phone we were forced to buy because most of us traded in a perfectly good phone that samsung would not send back to us.

MAKE IT RIGHT. No Note 7 customer who is stuck in a payment plan with a phone most of us were forced to buy, should get the shaft again.

Verizon...Early upgrade from the carriers ( verizon you're letting iphone 7 owners do Early upgrade, so why not us so we can get the Note 8 now as well).

Samsung, give us that $425 right now so that we can pay off the EIP (equipment installment plan) phone you caused us to enter into in the first place.

We too were involved in the double recall and my college aged son had to settle for the 7edge which he is not happy about.

First of all they are saying the 7edge only has a trade in value of $175. This seems pretty low to me so obviously Samung/Verizon is lowballing the trade value to entice us into falling for this scam.

They actually expect us to pay off the replacement phone which means I would have paid over $800 for a phone and then I have to TURN IT IN!!! Which then Samsung will just refurbish and re-sell.

I'm sorry but if I spend all that money on anything it is mine to keep. I can use it, sell it, trade it in or throw it in the Atlantic Ocean!

I feel sorry for those customers who will actually think this is a good deal and go for it. I spoke to a supervisor yesterday who said we have to wait to see if Samsung is going to come up with anything better when the phone is actually released. I am not holding my breath that's for sure!

The bottom line is we need to be able to turn in the replacement phone (that we were forced to get) and call it even. Whether they waive the balance due, apply the instant credit to the balance due or however they want to word it. Those customers who were involved in this recall last year should have the opportunity to be rid of the replacement phone without paying it off and be free to purchase the Note 8.

I'm in the same boat as many others here, had the Note 7 twice, forced to downgrade to an S7. Now neither Verizon or Samsung will allow us to apply the discount/trade in to the balance on our existing phones. Meanwhile, the competition comes out with this: Switch Carriers without Early Termination Fees | No ETF's | T-Mobile So now T-Mobile will pay off our Verizon phones if we switch to them. So, Verizon, wouldn't you rather keep loyal customers rather than have them switch carriers because of this policy? I for one would much rather stay with Verizon than switch, but if it means being stuck with a phone that is not what I want...

Keep in mind the payoff is UP to 650, MINUS any trade in value of a phone. So you will STILL be responsible for some of your device and your final bill. Gotta look out for the small print, folks.

Actually I did read the fine print and suggest you do the same. The fine print says you trade in your phone with Verizon. They give you a fraction of what you owe and you leave having to pay hundreds of dollars for the difference. You give T-Mobile that bill and they give you a credit for that amount (up to $650) per line

get the trade in to cover the payoff and pay full pruce at 40 a month for

Don't be so quick with T-Mobile. Another poster indicated that yes, they will buy out the Verizon contract, however, they don't allow a device payment over $30/month. So, the buyer would be required to basically put a down payment on the Note 8 of about $210 to get it to the $30/month payment mark plus the added cost of the line charges; the poster indicated a minimum base cost of $299 to get the Note 8 and switch to T-Mobile.

Here is just another reason why i would stay away from this debacle. I was an avid note user, had the note 2, note 3, then the note 7. Loved those phones. While it is true that this is not Verizon fault, they do shoulder some of the blame. They sell the product. What should happen here is all of us Note 7 users should qualify for a discount without having to turn in certain phones. And if you look at verizons website under the promotion, You only get 50% off the Note 8 if you have a newer smartphone, i.e. iphone 7 or 7 plus. Then you are tiered down to 35% off if you have a certain other phone, i.e. pixel and Moto Z. Then 25% if you have other phones like the moto z play, lg g4, note 4, etc. It shouldn't be about the money right now for either samsung or verizon. Make you money off the new customers you garner. Dont make the loyal customers of each brand (verizon and samsung note) pay more than what they should. I will hold off until late october or early november to see what I will do. No matter how each company tries to spin it, They are leaving a boat load of us customers mad and unappreciated.

No one is asking to waive the balance on the phones we were forced into due to the Note 7 recall. We are simply asking to have the $480 promotion (or even the Samsung $425) be applied to the balance we currently owe, then give us the standard 24 month payment plan on the Note 8, even if it means the $40 monthly payment we would have if we were to by the phone normally. It's not as if we had no other alternative since your competition is willing to buy out our balance to switch carriers. It seems incomprehensible to me that a company like Verizon would care so little about retaining their customer base. As it stands right now, Verizon has about two weeks to rectify this situation or to see a large number of customers switch to T-Mobile.

The only reason I haven't jumped ship yet is because the new Note 8 doesn't support the new 600mhz LTE on the T-Mobile network.

It seems like, without realizing it, Samsung is forcing themselves into a corner but still arguing with their customers. I read in an article,

"Samsung doesn’t have to run any deal for former Galaxy Note 7 owners. The company didn’t just forcefully remove the Galaxy Note 7 from your hands last year. It replaced your phone with something else or refunded the money."

Um, yes they did forcefully remove the devices from us. They even reduced the battery life on the 1% who decided to keep it after being basically threatened by Samsung to return our Note 7 devices.

You act like I should be happy they refunded the money spent on my defunct phone, as if it was my burden to begin with.

I'm about done with Verizon and Samsung completely! Get you heads our of the darkness and see what's really happening!

I wish Verizon would see that to truly be doing something for its Note 7 customers, the proper thing would be to allow early trade ins of the devices we downgraded to, since we were not able to get our original phones back from them. If they would have returned my Note 3 instead of me having to change to a note 5 after the recall, I could get the same deal they are offering me for being a loyal customer. It is a slap in the face to see a pop up each time I visit Verizon wireless and the emails from Verizon that tout such a great deal to former Note 7 owners, that in reality they are offering to any Verizon customers. Verizon, take a page from Sprint's book. They are allowing their customers to trade their devices after 12 payments have been made, much better than requiring payment in full

I was on the phone with Verizon a few times to discuss this. It really is frustrating! I had waited to upgrade my phone when I learned about the Note 7. Finally, when it arrived, I was instantly in love (I had been a Note 4 user - I love the Notes). The recall was so disappointing. But I did what I was supposed to do and traded my phone for another phone that wasn't a Note and wasn't what I wanted. Now, I can't upgrade to a Note 8 until I pay off my contract (October 2018). I'm almost tempted to take a loss, pay off the dumb thing and have Samsung buy my current phone and get the deal they're offering Note 7 users. I'd be free from a contract with Verizon! That might be worth the price. I'm "this close" but am holding out to see if Verizon will step up.

I was online at Best Buy a couple hours ago using the live chat button to ask about this. According to him, my S7E would have a trade in value of $379.99 that could be applied to the $429 I still owe. I haven't been into a Best Buy to talk to a sales rep in person. Has anyone here checked into this at a BB store? If true, I'd say [Removed] the Samsung or Verizon offer and go with this.

What verizon and samsung are doing with this promo is an absolute slap in the face to previous note 7 customers and will end up hurting them one day. I have a growing pipeline corrosion survey business with almost 30 employees. I am looking into business plans for my company to provide cell phone service to my employees. I can tell you that verizon will not be getting it. The 50% off a phone that will be compensated over the course of 2 years is a joke and anyone with half a brain can see that!

Update on my chat with Corporate.

First, they are only going on a case by case basis. If someone wants to argue the payoff/buyout, they need to contact Corporate and talk it out Leadership | About Verizon . The reason they aren't offering this as a global sort of offer is just due to the number of customers and the manpower that would be required to implement everything; as a project manager and business analyst, I'll keep my view on that to people's imaginations :smileyhappy: to keep from possibly burning good will bridges.

Now, a few things. There are two types of contracts; 24 months of payments and 100% cost, or 24 months worth of payments and 50% cost to get an upgrade (the previous annual upgrade option). Either way, the phone, whichever one the customer has, MUST be fully paid before they can upgrade. What this means is that if a person had the 25/50%, they still have to pay the 12 month balance on the phone (the equivalent of the last 12 payments); they would just be allowed to upgrade once the phone was paid to the 50% value. I admit this didn't make a whole bunch of sense, as, the customer could upgrade at any time once the phone is paid off, regardless of when, the way current contracting goes. A customer could make three payments, pay off the balance and immediately upgrade.

The offer I was given was this. My payment agreement was for 24/100% (I was never given an alternate possibility). I will have my 12th payment completed on 15 September, at which time, Verizon would credit exactly half of the amount owed, so, by numbers, $214.50 to apply to the phone balance, leaving a cost of $214.50 to pay in order to do the upgrade. The other option was to, before my next statement comes out, credit the $214.50 to my account balance, which, with my bill would mean no payment required for the month, with balance applied to the next statement. It wouldn't be applied to the balance on the phone, but the idea would be to reduce the bill to save the money to get the half credit to pay off the phone. Same end result, just applied differently. There is no 100% buyout being offered even with corporate contact. This is a one-time ever option and wouldn't be offered again. So, if someone says, I don't like the Note 8 I want to upgrade to the Note 9, they would have to have the phone fully paid; no reductions or credits.

The current promotion is as written. The $480 cost reduction over the course of the standard 24 month payment agreement. If someone wants to buy the Note 8 outright, or they want to buyout the overall cost early, they would not receive any reduction in the cost, or would not be credited the remaining balance of the credit, as currently offered. A trade-in would still be allowed obviously but it is reduced to the regular trade-in value and not the promotional, 24 month payment plan, credit. I've never done a trade-in as my previous phones have been given to family or friends; is the amount an immediate credit and reduction or is it applied over time..like the credit currently being offered over the 24 payments?

Verizon did indicate that it is possible (not guaranteed) a different promotion would be given once the pre-order time ends on 14 September. Starting 15 September, the phones will be available in the regular stores...obviously available inventory depends upon the individual store location.

Next, for the heck of it I ran the process through Verizon online. When I requested the option of the upgrade, I was given two choices...either add the new device (as a second line) or pay off, in my case the Edge, and keep it; there was no option for payoff/buyout and trade-in. I added it to the cart anyway, under the payoff and keep, figuring I could go through the regular trade-in process at the end..nope, the Edge did not come up as a trade-in option; only my iPad and funny enough, the Note 7 (sent back last year but still showing as an inactive line). I asked about this, and Verizon indicated a pre-order with a remaining balance on the payment plan is not possible in one transaction. The customer would have to first pay off the phone in one transaction, and then go through the pre-order process. I am guessing this also holds true for any orders placed after the pre-order period.

I admit I forgot to ask about the Samsung deal and moving it to Verizon; if the Edge could be paid off with extra payments or if it had to be maintained as a new line alongside the Note 8. If I get some time I'll call back and see if I can get that question answered.

However, my 12 months will not be until October ( I didn't want to turn mine in) so I have to make a payment for 2 months worth to get to the 12 month value + half the remaing balance due (18 months worth)? Just for consistency and clarification. You contacted Kenneth Dixon? And you have to make 12 payments + half the balance and then you will get a credit for the $214.50 (or half the remaining balance owed) when you pre-order the Note 8 with the $480 savings?

If that is the case, that is totally fair and very similar $ wise to my prorated credit suggestion.

So after you pay the 12 payments and 1/2 the balance (~$250) you get out of your remaining obligation and order the Note for $480 discount giving you ~$220-$230 ($480-$250) discount on the Note!

It sounds like what they are offering is consistent...I contacted a different person and was contacted in turn by one of the corporate team.

Yes, essentially they would pay half of the remaining phone balance after the phone hits the 50% paid mark but the reduction in the 8 phone cost is still dependent upon making 24 payments. Pay for the 8 up front; no reduction. Pay off early, the promotional credit stops...balance of credit is not applied.

The $480 is only applicable through the pre-order period. While corporate indicated the pre-order only went to 14 Sep, I've seen 24 Sep as the end of the pre-order period so not sure which is correct.

A different promotion for after the pre-order period may be in the works but no guara tees there.

tk3765 What others have posted is that they are getting the balance of their phone paid off for the "opportunity" to pay full price for the phone. Which at this point VZ is profiting from that transaction. By September 15th most everyone will have less than $480 balance on their phone. So the 1 or 2 payments @ $33 you have less than $480 VZ will profit on the transaction. WOW what a great deal to get rid of a phone I didn't want?!?

So I am still not clear on your offer, they essentially want you to pay 75% of the phone (12 months +1/2 the balance=18 months or 75%) to get the $480 pre-order price, or was that the "opportunity" to pay retail?

I am extremely upset regarding your trade in option for previous Note 7 owners. I went thru 2 exchanges and spent over 9 hours total in your stores doing it. I am an avid Samsung note user and when I returned the 2nd Note 7 i was promised that I would be able to change out the phone I was being forced to buy when the new note came out. Now I'm being told I must pay off the current phone which is a motoz.... The worst phone ever I might add! I was going to just downgrade to a edge when I had to return my note 7 but there was a sales rep in the store that forced this crap of a phone on me. He literally was throwing it on the ground telling me how it wouldn't break and I would be very unwise not to buy it.... We have been with Verizon for over 15 years. And I have spent thousands and hundreds of hours on your stores. This is wrong. Making us pay for a phone we never wanted and then not allowing us to use the credit up front to lower or monthly bill is unprofessional and robbery. You had no issue making me sign another agreement to try and retain your customer base, but lying to me telling me I would not be penalized and could upgrade early is unacceptable. If I ran my company this way I would go out of business... But then again you are Verizon... You look at this as a money maker and the bottom line, not what is best for the customer and all we went thru during this fiasco. Why don't you all do what is right by us loyal customers and allow us to upgrade early with no penalty and stop trying to make a buck on our loyalty to you and Samsung. Whether I stay with Verizon will be how you handle this and wether or not you rise to the occasion and actually make good on your word. How professional are you? What is the true character of your company? What do you really stand for? I'll be waiting to see your response to me personally and to your other customers.

Ok, I've been on the phone to Verizon. In contact with Samsung about this, hours…

As a former Note 7 (two time owner- both original and replacement)

I stayed with Samsung and got the S7 edge, its no note, under the advice that we would be able to return our replacement Samsung to get the note 8 when it came out.

Verizon needs to let us turn in our phones, so we can get the note 8. Duh, we are under a year into our current contract, one year next month. I'm not about to pay off this phone to just turn around and trade it in.

We are stuck! In a year, I will be done with both companies!

I am in the same situation as many of you, my husband and I both got traded in our note 4s for the note 7, then the recalled happened we were left with no phone so we down graded to the S7 edge like many of you. We stayed with Samsung because we are loyal to this company, and we were promised by Verizon that we would get to upgrade when the note 8 came out. I'm excited about the new note but when I go and try to order the new note 8 I am told I have to pay my remaining balance to be able to upgrade! And if you even think of getting the discount of 480 you have to give up your phone, they must be crazy. I'm also considering changing phone carriers, Verizon is just a greedy company, Verizon treat everyone that purchased a note 7 equally, not all people have 400 dollars laying around or in our case 800 for two phones. Make it right Verizon or you will lose a long time customer.

[Removed] I also don't have my landline any longer and rely on my cell phone. I still think Verizon could do better for us to be able to get the Note 8.

But, I'm at the point that until I here directly hear from Verizon, I'm done with this. Looks like I'll stick this out until my 2 years are up in October 2018, then I will be changing phones and providers. Wish everyone well and hope that we get a reasonable deal, but not holding my breath.

Guys, all you need to do is contact executive relations if you are still getting the run around from the [Removed] CSR's! Executive relations is handling this wonderfully and I now have my new Note 8.

RACBRO3 - Can you share who you contacted and what your deal was (as they vary). Some people are getting their phone paid off but then have to pay retail for the Note (Not a Great Deal). Others are getting 25% (or half of the last 12 months) paid off and getting the 1/2 off Note deal (A little better deal).

Can you tell us your deal and who you contacted?
