Will be charged for text messages even when airplane mode is turned with my S5?

Question

I will be on vacation in Dominican Republic and I don't want to pay per text during the trip.  As a result, if I just turn airplane mode to "on" will I be able to avoid per text charges?

atomarchio1,  I hope all is well in the Dominican Republic. That sounds like a great place to travel. In regards to your messages if you are using the Verizon Messages application to send and receive text and airplane mode is on you should not be able to send or receive messages unless you are connected to wifi. Since airplane mode disables your network connection the only way for your phone to receive any connection should only be through wifi. If the messages are in fact being sent over wifi there will be no per message charges.
