So does it show that it's connected but then you're still unable to access data..or? It"s hard to diagnose problems on such little information.

My lap top see's the phone, but when I try to connect it is not really communicating to the phone. It brings up the box but that's as far as it goes. When it is done trying it returns to the list of available wireless networks. The icon on the bottom right of my computer never gives the little bubbles showing communication, it stays as a red "X" . I have tried Verizon support and taking both back into the store, where he added a PDA net.
It doesn't really work ready to go back to my Lucid ugh!!! thanks for any help!

First a question. Does this new phone run Jelly Bean OS?
If you answered yes then its the update which is causing your problem.
I would turn your laptop or desktop on and off and let it search for the phones hotspot. That is if your using the S3 to connect to the internet.
However I am thinking you are trying to connect to your home wifi via the wireless router. If that is the case turn off your broadband modem, turn off the router and turn off your phone. Wait a few minutes and then turn on the broadband modem let it power up fully, do the same for your router. This will clean up your network connections. Turn the phone back on and now let it search for your network ssid. If found click on connect and enter your network key (password) if it connects all is well. If not you may have a modem or router that is not compatible with the Jelly Bean OS.
You then would have to buy newer.
Now if your running Windows XP there may need to be a drivers download done to allow the phone to connect. You can hook the Samsung to your computer via the usb cable and it should give you the option to install drivers for the phone.
In any case the download will not hurt your computer or your phone.
Lastly to use your phone as a hotspot the account must be set up to use it. It costs money now, no free teathering anymore.
This are just observations hope one helps you.
Good Luck

Hey there jeanette249,
I'm sorry for the issues you are having with your Samsung S3 and its mobile hotspot. Let's get you up and running. Are you paying for the mobile hotspot feature on a monthly basis? Are you on the Share Everything Plan? If you are, than the mobile hotspot feature is included in the plan.
Have you always used the PDAnet application? The application may not be compatible with with your current devices software version.
What zip code are you located in? I'll review the area. Are you able to use the phones data services ok?
Please provide additional details so that I can better assist.
