When I access Hotmail only a couple of emails show up when I know there are 10 when I look at Hotmail on a laptop.
You have to set up your account settings to leave on server and to get xxx numbers of email.
I found the outlook (hotmail) app works better than the stock email app on the devices.

Your answer is true to a great degree. Your answer sent me to the sync settings. my phone was set to sync 3 days, I just set it to 1 month. I have know idea how that got changed.
