Hi.

Verizon Wireless began pushing Android 2.2, Froyo, to the Samsung Fascinate on April 21, 2011.  Enhancements include support for Adobe Flash Player.  You can visit www.verizonwireless.com/fascinatesupport for more information and download instructions for the software update.  Customers are able to download the update manually by going to Settings > About Phone > Update Phone.

Thank you,

It was just a picture of 2.3 booted on the fascinate from one of the developers over at XDA. Gingerbread is the next iteration beyond froyo so yes, in theory, it should be better.  The Nexus S on the market is currently the only phone on the market  "officially" running Gingerbread so I wouldn't expect Verizon/Samsung to push it to the Fascinate for a while, IF they decide to do so.

this is why i wish phone os was like pc os, get the os, grab some drivers and get to work

yeah, it's amazing at the work the developers over there are doing especially since they're having to reverse engineer things with no kernel source and samsung managing to goof up everything with touchwiz.  If samsung were more open with their code, we would've been running Gingerbread months ago.

Google names their OS updates alphabetically after a dessert.  Currently the Fascinate is running 2.1 (which is eclair).  The next update 2.2 is Froyo which everyone has been waiting on since september and most phones already have it.  2.3 is Gingerbread and most likely will be the title of a thread soon with people wondering why they don't have it yet. lol

I'm tired of waiting for Froyo so I will skip it and Gingerbread and just wait for the 2.4 release of Banana Bread! LMAO

lol.  I tried the gingerbread rom last night.  Not quite ready for prime time.  Then my backup I restored had force closes like crazy so I had to go to my backup backup after going back to stock 3 times.  ❤️ MyBackup Pro

I'm sticking with froyo for now, I figure give them some time to work out gingerbread's issues, froyo is  okay, but even it still has it's issues. I can definitely see why verizon hasn't released it to the public yet.

Just came accross the post that indentified that Sprint officially announced that Froyo will be pushed out on 02/21 to Epic 4G and all users will be getting it by the end of the next week.

http://www.phonearena.com/image.php?m=Articles.Images&f=name&id=37972&name=Samsung-Epic-4G-release-d...

Verizon! Why are we still using Eclair whenever entire world of Galaxy S is converting to Froyo. How long it will take Verizon developers, BAs, and tester to complete that update? We are feeling like a second class citizens. You lied to us so many times about Froyo update. Maybe it is time to put your act together.

I don't know about others but one thing for sure, I will not be extending my 5 unlimitted line family plan with Verzion ever again. If Verzion doesn't care for loosing $500/month customer when I will vote with my $$$ and take my business elsewhere.

VERIZON!!! CAN YOU HEAR US NOW!!! YOUR IGNORANCE OF CUSTOMERS' CONCERN IS UNACEPTABLE! SHAME ON YOU!!!

actually, you are quite wrong. not every galaxy s phone has froyo. this will still leave at least 3 us galaxy s models without froyo. wow, people will make anything up to rip on verizon.

@M91-30.

Let's see. There are 4 US Galaxy S phones.

1. T-Mobile Vibrant was upgraded to Froyo about 1.5 months ago after consumers filed class action case against T-Mobile and Samsung.

2. Sprint Epic 4G will be upgrade starting tomorrow.

3. AT&T Captivate was announce to be upgrade to Froyo about a week or so ago but due to late found severe bug, delayed the release. But promised, to have this fixed that ASAP. At lease release is ready and AT&T is in final stages of correcting the bug. It takes a lot of guts for a phone company to acknowledge its mistake, accept the fault, and move on on fixing it.

4. Verizon Fascinate still NO word from either Verizon or Samsung on even ETA whenever Froyo will be delivered. Only rumors, unofficial XDA packages, etc.

Now...who is wrong? Is there still 3 phones without Froyo, or really 2, or honestly 1.5. Get you facts straight.

I am not bushing or ripping Verizon. I am demanding what was promising all alone and is long past due. I have all rights to be upset for Verizon missing their own deadlines and promises (mid-October, just before Thanksgiving, Black Friday, mid-December, just before Christmas, right after the New Year, and now the latest promised 2/22/11).  I wonder what would Verizon do to me if I would miss 5 months worth of payments. I'm sure they would cut me off, but why can I do the same.

Verizon has a history of class action suits against them for various issues. I think this is another issue that should be added to the list. To sell a product with promises of features that will not work without updated software and then not to provide the updates as promised would be in my opinion a valid point for such suit. And to include Samsung to cover all the bases. Just one persons opinion.

Yeah my partner talked me out of my no contract $70 unlimited data and talk w/ tmo on a G1 (was about to get g2)... big reds employees assured me the fascinate would have froyo ASAP... I was talked out of of my return/exchange since froyo was coming out ASAP.

This is such **bleep**, 6 months later and I am trying to figure out how to get out of this contract.

I was so leary of this phone I didn't even open it and take it out of the box for 2 days.

Sometimes you need to trust your intuition.

I had it right with t-mobile, I should have never left, I would have had froyo, flash and lower bills.

Oh wait froyo comes out today right?

Whatever.

Thanks Verizon for showing me how important your idiotic process of bloatware loading is.  It has caused me permanent loss of my wireless enthusiasm.

Foryo is great :smileyhappy:

The only reason in my opinion that it has not been released is Marketing they have it.

Might mess up all those iphone contracts.

This Phone does flash iphone does not.

Where did you see the news about the AT&T update for the Captivate? I haven't seen anything similar in websites I follow.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Sounds like someone else should get their facts straight.  There was NO class action lawsuit.  It was all a farce and the guy made it up.  Tmobile only has it available through Kies which is one of the most god awful programs known to man and doesn't work most of the time anyway. AT&T HASN'T made the update available OTA or through Kies either.  It briefly popped up on their website but got pulled in a matter of minutes and nothing more has been mentioned about it.  If all goes as planned, Sprint will be the first to make it available OTA starting monday.

I think the carriers should just skip FROYO and work on getting out Gingerbread.  Why release an OS that already has a replacement in the works?

The news about AT&T Captivate Froyo update was posted on BRG and dozen of other websites.

http://www.bgr.com/2011/02/17/att%E2%80%99s-samsung-captivate-finally-gets-android-2-2-froyo-update/

The class action case against Samsung and T-Mobile wasn't farce. Read more

Should someone continute to have this discussion and contradict my statements, have yours supported as well.

Like I said, the Froyo update for the captivate was posted very briefly.  By the time the blogs got ahold of it, it had already been pulled and afaik, AT&T hasn't commented.

In regards to the lawsuit, that's the same one where the guy got called out on XDA for it all being **bleep**.  Someone even went so far as calling the firm to get more information and was told they weren't pursuing any lawsuits involving Samsung/tmobile and the guy even admitted that he hadn't gone through with it. If you don't believe it, here's the thread.  Do some more research next time instead of believing everything the blog sites post.

it doesn't work that way. there are still phones out there with 1.6 that will never even get 2.1. the manufacturer decides what the last update will be, not the customers. not sll phones can run all OSs.

My statement was meant for the Fascinate only, figured since this was in the Fascinate forum it would have been read that way.  I do realize some devices won't run Gingerbread.  Sorry for the confusion.
